WOODLAND – A weekend altercation landed one man in the hospital and another in the custody of the Northampton County Sheriff.

According to Sheriff Wardie P. Vincent, officers arrested Alfredo Sanchez, 23, of Lot 105 Arrowhead Mobile Home Park here Saturday.

Vincent said his officers reported to the scene and found that an altercation had escalated into a fight.

Sanchez then reportedly used a large metal belt buckle to beat the victim in the head, rendering the victim disabled.

The victim was taken to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and then airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville due to injuries sustained in the altercation, according to Vincent.

Sanchez was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and placed in the Northampton County Jail under a $500 secured bond.

His first appearance was slated for Monday morning.
