WINDSOR – The identity of a woman killed in a traffic accident on Sunday has been revealed.

Patricia Andrews, 47, of Greenville was one of two individuals that lost their life in Sunday’s fatal mishap, one that occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on U.S. 13 approximately one-half mile north of the Buena Vista community in Bertie County.

Andrews was a front seat passenger in a 1997 Plymouth Neon operated by John Thomas Williams, 60, of Windsor. Williams was also killed in the two-vehicle accident.

Williams’ vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 13 at which time, according to a report filed by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Steve Dail, he apparently lost control of his automobile after running off the right side of the road. Dail’s report showed that Williams attempted to regain control, but allegedly overcorrected. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, crossed the centerline sideways and was struck, in the passenger’s side door, by a 2003 Volkswagen driven by Danny Speller, 21, of Windsor. Speller’s vehicle was traveling north on U.S. 13.

Speller was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville from where he was treated and released.

The double fatality brings the number to 13 of those killed on Bertie, Gates or Hertford County roads since Jan. 1. It also marked the third consecutive Sunday that a fatal accident occurred in the three-county area.
