CONWAY – A second individual has died as the result of a motor vehicle accident during the Memorial Day weekend.
On Monday, Ronald Britton Flythe, 70, of Conway lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on the Doolittle Mill Road (RP 1508) between Milwaukee and the Zion Church Road.
At the time of the 3:22 p.m. crash, Britton was operating a 2002 Jaguar west on Doolittle Mill Road. He was traveling alone.
According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper B. Pulliam, Flythe’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road and collided with a tree stump. Flythe was wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene of the crash.
Pulliam’s report revealed that speed and the use of alcohol by the driver were contributing factors in the fatal accident.
The holiday weekend’s first fatal accident occurred Sunday on U.S. 258 north of Murfreesboro. There, Judy Lynn Talley, 49, of Newport News, Va. was killed instantly when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was struck head-on by another vehicle.
The wreck occurred at 11:30 a.m. approximately 1.1 miles north of Murfreesboro on U.S. 258 near Maney’s Neck Mobile Home Park.
Talley was riding in a 2004 Mazda pick-up truck owned and operated by her husband, Paul Brian Talley, 48, also of Newport News.
According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Jones, the Mazda was traveling south and was in the process of passing another vehicle when it struck, head-on, a 2000 Ford pick-up truck operated by Justin Dean Bailey, 21, of Carrsville, Va.
Bailey’s vehicle was northbound on U.S. 258. He was traveling alone.
Paul Talley and Bailey both suffered injuries and were airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. There, Talley was listed in fair condition on Monday afternoon while Bailey was treated and released.
