AHOSKIE – Chuck Moore may be down, but he’s not out.

Moore, a veteran Ahoskie attorney, called the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald office on Wednesday morning to report that he is hospitalized.

“Being a diabetic has caused me to lose my left leg, just below the knee,” Moore said. “I just want to let everyone know of my current situation.”

Moore said once he fully recovers from the surgery, he will be transferred to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro where he will undergo rehabilitation.

“I’ll be in Tarboro for about 30 days,” Moore said. “If things go as planned after that, I’m hoping to return to practicing law.”

This marks the second major surgery for Moore. He lost his right leg to diabetes in 1999.

“I’m not going to let this get me down or prevent me from returning to practice law,” he stressed.

Moore said he has an artificial right leg and will soon be fitted for a prosthesis for his left leg.

“I’ll be slow, but I’ll be able to get around,” Moore said. “To my friends and my clients, I’ll see you after I finish my rehab.”
