AHOSKIE – A rodeo rider is not required to spur a bull…in calf roping, the competitor is required to tie three of the animal’s legs…a rider must remain on a broncing animal for eight seconds to qualify for points.

If you knew the above facts and entered a contest sponsored by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald and Gates County Index, chances were good that you could win four tickets to this weekend’s Gates County Rodeo.

As a matter of fact, 43 of the 47 entries received correctly answered the three questions and became eligible for the drawing. Those correct entries were placed in a box from where 10 were randomly chosen. Each will receive four tickets to the ninth annual Gates County Rodeo, scheduled for Friday and Saturday (May 12-13).

The winners are as follows:

Helen White of Colerain.

Judy E. Northcott of Ahoskie.

Linda Rose of Gates.

Dana Hardin of Conway.

Joyce Eure of Eure.

Thomas Vaughan of Murfreesboro.

Mary Piland of Corapeake.

Jean Mulder of Conway.

Melissa Freeman of Ahoskie.

Esther Greene of Eure.

The tickets can be picked-up at the Ahoskie office of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald during normal business hours (8 a.m. n 5 p.m., Monday through Friday).

A special section detailing the annual Gates County Rodeo is inserted into today’s edition.
