HARRELLSVILLE – A debris fire that got out of hand destroyed a Harrellsville home Tuesday.

The home located at 110 Quebec Road had been for sale for several years according to neighbors and no one was currently living in the house.

Harrellsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief William Jones said the owner of the house had given permission to a neighbor to tear the house down and the neighbor was burning trash and debris from the home when the fire became uncontrollable.

“We responded to the fire as quickly as possible, but it was already gone when we got there,” Jones said.

According to Jones, the house was engulfed quickly by the fire and was completely destroyed.

“He tried to put out the fire with the water hose, but it was too hot,” Jones said.

According to Jones, the house is owned by Shelton Hardy of Windsor. A message left for Hardy was not returned.
