Bears fall

ELIZABETH CITY – Northeastern scored three runs in the home half of the first frame and never looked back.

The Eagles went on to beat Hertford County 10-7 in a Northeastern Coastal Conference baseball contest.

Northeastern led 10-5 after six innings and the Bears added two in the top of the seventh stanza.

&uot;We fell behind early and had to play catch up the whole game,&uot; HCHS coach Chris Towell said. &uot;It is tough to win that way. We didn’t give up.&uot;

Chris Mizelle took the loss on the mound.

The Bears’ leading hitters were Ryan Matthews at 2-for-4 and Heath Britt at 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Andre Lyles was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Hertford County is 2-16 overall and 0-7 in conference play. The Bears will play at Edenton tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m.
