MERRY HILL – Offense or defense, that is the question.
While the Lawrence Academy Lady Warriors were banging out 22 hits at the plate Wednesday, senior hurler Jessica Johnston was shutting down the Albemarle Colts.
Johnston (8-1) struck out 10 while throwing a no-hitter and walking just two as Lawrence dominated Albemarle 22-0.
While Johnston was cruising on the hill, six Lady Warriors were perfect at the plate.
Senior Ruth Stotesbury was 3-for-3 to lead the way while Kendall Street, Ashtyn Mizelle, Courtney Mizell and Sarah Capehart were all 2-for-2. Also unblemished at the plate was Debbie Stotesbury, who was 1-for-1 in her first at-bat since a season-opening injury.
Johnston was also solid at the plate, going 3-for-5. Lauren Rea, Ashley Swain and Lee Anne Eubanks all had two hits for the Warriors. Senior Jodi White was 1-for-3 on the day with a walk.
Lawrence, who moved to 12-4 overall and 9-0 inside the Tarheel Independent Conference, started the scoring early plating 10 in the first inning while adding four in the second and eight in the third.
