Currituck tops HCHS

AHOSKIE – Currituck pounded out 17 hits and knocked off Hertford County 14-6 here Tuesday night.

The baseball Knights opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the second stanza.

Eric Snow had a solo homer and Zack Beasley added a two-run blast to highlight the Knight scoring.

Currituck added two in the top of the third to take a 7-0 lead before the Bears responded.

Hertford County scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Jake Dunlow singled before Andre Lyles and Latrael Ashe drew walks to load the bases.

Dunlow scored on a Travis Ellis RBI-single to center while Lyles came home on a Richard Burns infield single.

Ashe scored when Ryan Matthews was hit with a pitch with the bases load.

Ellis scored on a Michael Burton RBI-fielder’s choice before Burns and Burton scored on a Heath Britt two-run triple to right-centerfield.

Dunlow walked, but a strikeout ended the inning with the Knights holding a 7-6 advantage.

Currituck scored three in the top of the sixth. Sherwood Johnson had a solo homer to highlight the inning.

The Bears also turned a double play to keep the score 10-6.

The Knights plated their final runs in the top of the seventh to establish the 14-6 final.

Matthews went five innings for the Bears and suffered the loss. Burton tossed the final two innings.

HCHS (0-13, 0-5) will host First Flight tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m.
