Edenton blanks Bertie

EDENTON – Landon Jordan and Broc Sutton had a good night Tuesday.
The Bertie Falcon bats didn’t.
Jordan and Sutton combined to toss a no-hitter as Edenton downed Northeastern Coastal Conference rival Bertie 10-0 in baseball action.
Edenton opened the scoring in the bottom of the first frame.
Jordan had a sacrifice fly while Arkeem Glenn delivered an RBI-single to give the Aces a 2-0 advantage.
Edenton added four in the bottom of the second stanza. Sutton hit a three-run bomb for the Aces in that frame while another scored on a balk to give Edenton a 6-0 lead.
The Aces added two in the bottom of the fourth frame when Sutton had an RBI-groundout and another run scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0.
The final runs of the contest came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Then, Sutton had another RBI-groundout and a run scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
Sutton led the Aces with five RBIs in the contest.
Bertie managed two base runners during the contest. Jed Hughes got on board via an error in the first inning and Hunter Mizelle reached on dropped third strike in the top of the fifth. Mizelle made it to second on a wild pitch, but stranded there.
&uot;We didn’t come out ready to play tonight,&uot; Bertie coach Randy Whitaker said. &uot;We were not ready to play mentally or physically.
&uot;We faced their two top pitchers and we couldn’t get anything going,&uot; he said. &uot;Hopefully we will be ready to play Friday night.&uot;
Lance Thomas started the game and went one and one-third innings, suffering the loss. Mizelle pitched two and two-thirds while Hughes tossed the final inning.
Bertie dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-4 inside the NCC and will host archrival Hertford County at 7 p.m. Friday.
