Rams rout TCCS

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School swept a Tarheel Independent Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

The Rams’ baseball squad knocked off Terra Ceia Christian School by counts of 11-1 and 19-0.

In the first contest, Neal Howard tossed a two-hitter to help lead the Rams to victory.

Terra Ceia opened the scoring in the first game with a run in the top of the first frame.

Ridgecroft answered with three runs in the bottom of the same inning. Matthew Jones walked before Jeremy Courtright and Gavin Mizelle had back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Jones scored on a Dustin Baker RBI-groundout. Courtright and Baker then scored on a Dillon Lowe two-run single to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.

Ridgecroft added three in the second stanza.

Courtright had an RBI-single, Mizelle scored on an error and Howard has an RBI-single to give the Rams a 6-1 lead.

RHS added the final five runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Andy Daughtridge, Haynes Joyner and Jones each had RBI-singles and Courtright added a two-run triple to end the game.

Howard pitched three inning for the win, allowing one run on two hits and had two strikeouts.

Courtright led the Rams offensively with three hits while Mizelle and Daughtridge had two each.

In the second contest, Bryan Britton tossed a one-hitter as the Rams rolled to a 19-0 win.

Ridgecroft scored their first nine runs in the bottom of the first frame.

There, Courtright laced an RBI-double, Britton had an RBI-groundout, one run scored on an error and Mizelle had two RBI-singles.

In addition, Josh Morris had a two-run single and Lowe had a two-run base hit to make it 9-0.

The Rams scored 10 in the bottom of the second to establish the final score.

Howard and Daughtridge had RBI-singles, Tony Barrick delivered an RBI-double and Lowe had a two-run single. Five additional runs scored on errors.

Britton went three innings on the mound, picking up the win after allowing no runs and one hit while striking out six.

Mizelle, Howard, Daughtridge, Morris and Lowe each had two hits to lead the Rams.

Ridgecroft improved to 6-1 with the win including a 5-1 mark inside the TIC. They will meet conference co-leader Lawrence Academy at 3:30 Wednesday in Merry Hill.
