MERRY HILL _ Gray Harrell and Joe Harrell combined to hurl a one-hit shutout Thursday afternoon.

The Lawrence Academy pitchers helped their team to an 11-0 victory over Tarheel Independent Conference foe Northeast Academy in varsity baseball action.

Gray Harrell went four innings for the Warriors, allowing no runs on a single hit while striking out six. Joe Harrell tossed the final inning, allowing no runs or hits while striking out one.

&uot;I was really pleased with Gray Harrell’s performance on the mound today,&uot; LA assistant coach Tom Hoggard said. &uot;He is an inexperienced pitcher who stepped up and pitched really well.&uot;

Lawrence opened the scoring in the first frame when Gray Harrell singled to left and went to second when Dusty Todd reached on an error. Harrell was erased on a double steal that sent Todd to second. Holden McClenney then singled Todd home to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage.

The home team added to that lead with three in the bottom of the second stanza.

T.J. Johnston singled to left, went to second on an error and then went to third when Max Walker reached on a fielder’s choice. After Walker swiped second, the two scored on Gray Harrell’s RBI-double to right. Harrell went to third when Todd doubled to left and scored on a Judd Whitehead sacrifice fly to give Lawrence a 4-0 lead.

Lawrence continued to build their advantage in the bottom of the third.

Jobie Thomas doubled to center and scored on a J.T. Lilley single to left field. Lilley went to third when Johnston doubled and scored on a Walker sacrifice fly.

A pitch hit Zack White and Gray Harrell singled to load the bases. Johnston then scored on a Joe Harrell bases-loaded walk. White scored on a Jonathan Brantley RBI-fielder’s choice to give Lawrence an 8-0 advantage.

The Warriors added three in the bottom of the fourth frame to secure the win.

Chase Vaughan had Northeast’s only hit in the fourth inning.

Lawrence’s victory improves the Warriors to 8-1 on the year and 2-0 inside the TIC. They will play at doubleheader at Terra Ceia Christian School on Monday.

Northeast is 0-1 in the TIC and 0-1 overall and hosted Northampton-East yesterday in a game that finished too late for press time.
