WOODLAND – An exchange of gunshots at the Rite Way Convenience store here has a Potecasi man behind bars.

According to Woodland Police Chief Don Ryan, a customer and the manager of Rite Way got into a verbal disagreement Thursday afternoon that quickly escalated.

Reports to Ryan indicated there was a physical confrontation between the two before Arthony Wrentz of Griffintown Road in Potecasi allegedly left the premises only to return with a weapon.

Wrentz allegedly fired three shots into the store before the gunfire was returned from inside the store. No one was injured in the exchange.

Ryan was called to the scene and quickly apprehended the suspect. While he was capturing the suspected shooter, Rich Square Police Chief Bo Roye secured the scene.

The Jackson Police Department and Northampton County Sheriff’s Office also helped in the investigation.

Ryan said no weapon was found by the time he apprehended Wrentz at the residence he was believed to be living at and that the suspect denied firing any shots, but admitted to an altercation.

Wrentz was placed in the Northampton County Jail under an $80,000 secured bond and charged with three counts of shooting into an occupied building.

Upon being placed in custody, cocaine was found on Wrentz’s person and he was charged with two additional counts. Those counts, possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance in a jail facility, resulted in an additional $40,000 secured bond.

Chief Ryan said the investigation was continuing in the case.
