BHS wins two straight

PLYMOUTH – Bertie pulled out their second consecutive win in dramatic fashion Tuesday.

The Falcons’ baseball team scored two in the top of the seventh to defeat Plymouth 5-3 in non-conference action.

With the score deadlocked at 3-all, O.J. Dobbin walked in the to lead off the seventh. He stole second and third, scoring on an error when he swiped third.

Corey Hoggard then walked. Pinch runner Kevin Jara stole second and third and scored when Lance Thomas reached on an RBI-fielder’s choice to make it 5-3.

The Falcon bats were silenced through much of the middle of the game, but had produced runs in the first frame.

Bertie scored three runs in the top of the first thanks to two hits and an error.

Dobbin walked and went to second on a Hoggard single. Dobbin then came around to score on a Thomas double. Jara, again serving as a courtesy runner for Hoggard, scored on a Hunter Mizelle RBI-groundout.

Thomas came around to score when Aaron Hoggard reached via an error to make it 3-0.

Plymouth responded with two in the bottom of the first and then tied the game with a score in the bottom of the sixth stanza.

Thomas went four innings on the mound for Bertie, allowing two runs and striking out six before giving way to Mizelle. He went three innings to pick up the win, allowing just one run while recording two strikeouts.

The win pushes the Falcons to 2-4 on the season as they host Plymouth today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m.
