Anita B. McCarter
SUFFOLK, Va. – Anita Beaton McCarter, 42, a native of White Sands, N.M., died February 27, 2006, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Martin H. McCarter; two daughters, Shannon N. Wadford and Heather A. McCarter and a son, Chase M. McCarter, all of Suffolk; a sister, Corinna B. Ritter of Corapeake; and a brother, Michael E. Beaton of DeRidder, La.
A graveside service was conducted Friday by the Rev. Mike Derflinger in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Harrell and Hill Funeral Home was in charge.
Mary Mitchell
WINDSOR n Mary W. Mitchell, 89, died February 28, 2006 at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Watson/Mitchell family cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.
Melvin L. Holley
Melvin Lee Holley, died February 24, 2006.
A funeral was conducted March 1, 2006 at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. W.J. Best Jr. Cherry’s Funeral Home was in charge.
Holley was employed with Mike Bass.
Survivors include a daughter, Shamika Perry of Colerain; six brothers, Coleman Ray Holley, James Holley and John Holley Jr., all of Merry Hill, Joe Wright and Ray Armstead, both of Edenton, and Ricky Holley of Elizabeth City; nine sisters, Marie Cross of Ahoskie, Mary Warren, Lisa Warren, Erma Tillett and Anderlynn Willliams, all of Merry Hill, Janet Holley of New York, Doris Hayes, Pearl Rankins and Alice Harrell, all of Colerain; his stepmother, Bertha V. Holley of Merry Hill; and two grandchildren.
Ervin Stanley
COLERAIN n Ervin Stanley, 48, a native of Bertie County, died February 27, 2006.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Soul Saving Station, Ahoskie, by Bishop Val Melendez. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Stanley was a member of Ashland Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Perry Stanley of Colerain; two sons, John Stanley and Nathaniel Stanley, both of Colerain; his mother, Rosa Stanley of Ahoskie; his father, William Stanley of Colerain; three brothers, Samuel Stanley of Newport News, Va., Douglas Stanley of Ahoskie and Keith Stanley of Newport News; three sisters, Shirley Mackey, Ecomi Stanley and Roslyn Stanley, all of Hampton; and three grandchildren.
Raleigh Majette
WOODLAND n Raleigh Majette, 87, a native of Northampton County, died February 28, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Nebo Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Mamie Majette of Virginia Beach, Va., and Cheryl Williams of Woodland; one brother, Clifton Majette Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Mamie Majette Mayer of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.
Warren C. Spivey Jr.
SUFFOLK-
Warren Carnice Spivey, Jr., 65, a native of Hertford County, died March 1, 2006 in his home.
Spivey was the owner of Spivey Rentals, Inc.
He owned the Outer Banks Daredevils, a coastal plains college summer league baseball team.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Spivey; a daughter, Heather Spivey Howell of Chesapeake; a son, Evan Warren Spivey of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Dolores Matthews of Ahoskie and Mary Lou Newsome of Winton; and one brother, Dan Spivey of Winton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel by the Rev. Michael D. Halley.
Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Andy V. Outlaw
AHOSKIE n Andy Vandy Outlaw, 43, a native of Ahoskie, died March 2, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Outlaw was a former employee of Newport News Shipyard as a painter.
Survivors include one son, Traviel Outlaw of Ahoskie; three brothers, Jerome E. Outlaw of Ahoskie, James Outlaw of Newark, NJ and Joseph Outlaw of Bronx, NY;
two sisters, Lillie Outlaw of Newport News, VA and Mary Ann Peterson of Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie.

AULANDER n James H. Simmons, 59, died March 1, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral was conducted Friday at Woodland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sid Collins. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland United Methodist Church, Woodland, NC 27897. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge.
Simmons was a member of United Methodist Church and was retired from the NC Department of Correction, Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Simmons; his children, Joseph Daniel of Woodland, and Carlton Daniel Jr. of Lasker; his brothers and sisters, J.C. Simmons of Windsor, Barbara Jones of Williamston, Carol Thames of Windsor and Sheila Shingleton of Walstonburg; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
