Beatrice Lassiter

AHOSKIE n Beatrice Lassiter, 81, a native of Hertford County, died February 10, 2006 at Guardian Care.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Haven Baptist Church in Murfreesboro by the Rev. Dr. James Shearn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, Paul C. Lassiter of Murfreesboro and Ecliffe Lassiter Sr. of Woodland; two daughters, Carylon Maye of Springfield, Massachusetts and Patricia Shearn of Murfreesboro; one sister, Daisy E. Vaughan of Murfreesboro; 29 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Goodman

GATESVILLE n Virginia Goodman, 52, a native of Gates County, died February 9, 2006 at Albemarle Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Clark; four daughters, Teresa Williams of Fayetteville, Juanita Farrow of Hampton, Va., Sharon Goodman of Garner and Brenda Hassell of Gatesville; two sons, Ernest Goodman and Michael Goodman, both of Gatesville; five brothers, Thomas Goodman and James Goodman, both of Aulander, John Goodman of Chicago, Vernon Goodman and Mack Goodman, both of Atlantic City, NJ; six sisters, Margie Little and Daisy Goodman, both of Greenville, Dorothy Ballard of Winton, Carolyn Perry of Belvidere, Betty Norfleet of Raleigh and Ronnie Norfleet of Gatesville; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church, Gates County by the Rev. James Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Conner Williams

AHOSKIE n Conner Williams, 79, a native of Bertie County, died February 12, 2006 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville, by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Williams was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church and retired from Georgia Pacific Company, Ahoskie.

Survivors include his daughters, May F. Privott of Cofield, Marrice Cain of Garysburg, Christine White of Powellsville and Martha Weaver of Ahoskie; sons, Robert Earl Williams and Joe Willie Williams, both of Ahoskie; sister, Sallie Mae Williams of Hoboken, NJ; a brother, James Williams of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Myers

ROCKY MOUNT n Charles William Myers, 68, died February 11, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

Gage Bowman

CORAPEAKE n Gage Nathaniel Bowman, four months, a native of Suffolk, Va., died February 12, 2006 at his home.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. Joe Cockrell.

Survivors include his parents, Megan Leann Bauer and Matthew Louis Bowman; sisters, Laila Hayden Bowman and Kylee Anne Bowman; brother, Jordan Jeffrey Robinson; maternal grandparents, Cathy and Timothy Bauer; paternal grandparents, Jon Wilson and Shelly and Don Murphy; maternal great-grandfather, Raymond Russell; paternal great-grandparents, Melodee and John Bowman; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Myrtle Hayden.

Allen E. Askew

EURE n Allen Edgar Askew Sr., 87, a native Gates County, died February 13, 2006 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Michael Brinkley and the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial was in the Askew family cemetery at Cool Spring Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Eure Christian Church, NC Hwy. 137, Eure, NC 27935.

Askew was the co-founder of Gates County Farm Service, he later owned and operated Triple A Super Food, Inc. He was a member of Eure Christian Church. He was also a veteran of the Army.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Askew Baines; a son, Allen E. Askew Jr., both of Eure; three grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Lizzie Robinson

WELDON n Lizzie M. Robinson, 60, died February 12, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

Celia W. Adams

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Celia Wynn Adams, a native of Merry Hill, died February 11, 2006. She was the widow of Willard V. Adams.

Survivors include her children, Harold Adams of Irvine, Calif., Willard Adams of Portsmouth, Kay Harper of Petersburg, Va., Teresa Robinson of Virginia Beach and Celia Clinton of Fairfax; a sisters, Thelma Wynn of Windsor, Mary Speight of Harrellsville, Janie Walker and Barbara Watson, both of Brooklyn, NY; a brother, Lemuel Wynn; six granddaughters; stepgrandson;

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Mount Hermon Baptist Temple with Dr. Leo Whitaker, the Rev. D. Stefan Adams and the Rev. Wilbur Adams. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, will be handling the arrangements. Viewing will begin today at noon. AHOSKIE n Ike Parker, died February 14, 2006 at his residence.

Gloria B. Cann

BOSTON, Mass. n Gloria Beasley Cann, a native of Ahoskie, died February 13, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerryl Moody. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Cann was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William Cann of Boston; two sons, Lawrence Cann of Boston and Kevin Beasley of Gatesville; her mother, Gloria Jean Beasley of Ahoskie; three brothers, Eugene Beasley Jr. of Ahoskie, Stevie Beasley of Greenville and Douglas Beasley of Elberton, Ga.; one sister, Tiffney Beasley White of Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Sabrina E. Bartley

CLAYTON n Sabrina Earlene Bartley, 39, of Clayton, NC, formerly of Neibert, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 in North Carolina, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

She was born August 6, 1966 at Man, a daughter of the late Elster Lee and Mabel Moore Bartley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Roger Bartley.

Sabrina was a hair dresser in the Man area, and for the past 16 years, she was employed with the North Carolina DMV. She was a wonderful mother and sister.

Survivors include one son, Robert Bryan Bartley and his fianc\u00E9, Heather of Raleigh, NC; three sisters, Patricia (Tommy) Baisden of Rutherfordton, NC, Kay (Ernie) Mangus of Man, and Phyllis (Dave) Thompson of Neibert; two brothers, Robert (Shelia) Bartley of Garner, NC and Elster “Buddy” (Donna) Bartley, Jr. of Garner, NC; her fianc\u00E9, Mike Ashley of Clayton, NC; a special niece, Amy Bartley of Garner, NC; and a host of nieces nephews, other family members, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel at Man with the Rev. Tim Ragland officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens at Godby.

Friends called from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC, and from

6-9 p.m. Monday at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.

Pall bearers were family and friends.
