CONWAY – It was the tip they were looking for.

Conway Police Chief Billy Wayne Duke reported an arrest has been made in connection with a break-in last week at the Food Center in that town.

&uot;A citizen provided a tip regarding the break-in and from that we were able to make an arrest,&uot; Duke said.

William Eric Newbold, 35, who has no known address was arrested January 19 for the crime.

On late Tuesday, January 17 or early Wednesday, January 18, the Food Center was broken into when someone allegedly pulled the telephone wires from the junction box behind the store and threw a brick through the door at the main entrance.

According to Duke, the perpetrator took only about 20 cartons of cigarettes and rummaged through the store.

Duke said he arrested Newbold without incident and that the suspect subsequently confessed in writing to the break-in.

Newbold is in the Northampton County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond charged with felonious breaking and entering and felonious larceny.

Duke said Newbold did not admit to being involved in an attempted home invasion on Main Street last week. The investigation into that matter is ongoing.
