Elizabeth H. Howard
NORFOLK, Va. – Elizabeth H. Howard, 93, raised in Ahoskie, died January 9, 2006.
Mrs. Howard was a member of First Baptist Church Bute Street for more than 60 years and a former member of Usher Board No. 2 Ministry. She was retired from Hofheimers Warehouse more than 40 years.
Survivors include her son, Alfred R. Howard of Ahoskie; daughter, Barbara A. Roberts of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Friday by the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Murray at First Baptist Bute Street. Hale Funeral Home was in charge.
Roscoe Cofield
WILLIAMSTON n Roscoe Cofield, 74, died January 12, 2006 at Vintage Inn.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. W.R. Best. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home.
James Freeman
MERRY HILL n James Freeman, died January 13, 2006 at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
Ruby D. Smith
CONWAY n Ruby Lee Drake Smith, 89, a native of Boykins, Va., and formerly of Conway, died January 11, 2006 at Huntersville Oaks Nursing home in Huntersville. She was the widow of Jodie Smith.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, one hour prior to service (10:30 a.m.)
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Gaddy of Mooresville; a son, Larry Jenkins of Newport; a sister, Pearl Carter of Boykins; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Georgia Macklin
ROCKY MOUNT n Georgia Macklin, died January 10, 2006.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Light of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane, Rocky Mount. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.
Eula Smallwood
LEWISTON n Eula M. Smallwood, 79, died January 10, 2006 at the Brian Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Lewiston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
Nancy S. Timberlake
WOODLAND – Mrs. Nancy Skeeter Timberlake, age 88, died at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Rich Square on Thursday, January 12, 2006.
Mrs. Timberlake was a native of Northampton County and a life long member of Woodland Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late, Mamie Skeeter Meadows and Joseph Skeeter, wife to the late Gilbert B. Timberlake, Sr. While a member of the Woodland Baptist Church she served some thirty-two years as deacon.
She was a choir member and dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was the WMU Director and served on various church committees.
She was active in various civic organizations through the years.
Mrs. Timberlake was very proud to serve twenty-five years as a coordinator for Operation Santa Claus for Cherry Hospital of Goldsboro, NC.
She worked as postmaster in George, NC and retired after forty some years of service.
Also preceding her in death is her son, Gilbert B. Timberlake, Jr., her granddaughter, Beth Shoulars and stepbrother Jim Skeeter.
Survivors include her daughter, Anne T. Shoulars of Raleigh, NC, her stepmother, Thelma Skeeter of Oregon, two stepbrothers, Paul Skeeter of Oregon and Tom Skeeter of California.
Also surviving are six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Baptist Church in Woodland, NC with the Rev. Heath Lloyd and Rev. Lamar Wheeler officiating.
The burial will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.
The family received friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Elizabeth E. Deanes
HARRELLSVILLE – Elizabeth Earley Deanes, 74, a native of Hertford County, died January 10, 2006, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Ms. Deanes was a member of Christain Harbor Baptist Church.
She was a retired sales clerk for Belk Tyler Company.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Irvin Deanes of Harrellsville, Joel Keith Deanes of Greenville, and James Michael Deanes of Elizabeth City; a sister, Hazel Sumner Earley of Hamilton; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Earley family cemetery, Harrellsville, by the Rev. Jimmy Jarrell.
The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Fannie M. Wiggins
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ n Fannie Mae Wiggins, died January 3, 2006 at Robertwood Johnson Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Lewiston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Survivors include two sons, Roscoe Wiggins and Lloyd Earl Wiggins, both of New Brunswick; two daughters, Martha Wiggins of Windsor and Ossie Mae Wiggins of North Brunswick; two brothers, Clyde Pugh of North Brunswick and John Pugh of New Brunswick; one sister, Ossie Bell Ray of New Jersey City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Kay U. Prince
RALEIGH n Kay Ulmer Prince, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., and formerly of Murfreesboro, died January 9, 2006.
Survivors include her husband, John; son, Jack Prince of Fort Mill, SC; daughter, Mary Mac Weems of Raleigh; a sister Susie Norris of Rock Hill; two brothers, Bill Prince and Jim Prince; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of her life was conducted Friday morning at Bay Leaf Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Rowe. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center was in charge. Ralph Stephenson
WOODLAND n Ralph Stephenson, 72, a native of Hertford County, died January 8, 2006 at his residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. J.T. Grant. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Stephenson was a casket maker for Timberlake. He was also a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Woodland.
Survivors include three brothers, Garfield Stephenson of Potecasi, James Stephenson of Wilson and Carlton Stephenson of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Rosa Lee Tann and Mary Tyler, both of Woodland.
