Ruth P. Walton

PORTSMOUTH, Va. n Ruth P. Walton, 90, a native of Bertie County, died December 16, 2005 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth by the Rev. Milton Blount. Burial will be in the Stark/Walton family cemetery, Kelford. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, and Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge.

She was a member of New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Charlie Walton of Portsmouth; a daughter, Phyllis Harrison of Portsmouth; and a brother, Sam Shoulder of Norfolk.

Junior Andrews

ROCKY MOUNT n Junior Columbus “Roy” Andrews, 80, died December 19, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at O.I.C. Auditorium, Rocky Mount. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Elmer Jacobs

RICH SQUARE n Elmer Jacobs, 60, a native of Northampton County, died December 16, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Rich Square, by Pastor Arthur Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander is in charge.

Survivors include sisters, Florence Taylor and Julia Clark, both of Rich Square, Sarah Jacobs, Katie Ann Jacobs, Febbie Jacobs and Ollie Jacobs, all of Paterson, NJ; and brothers, Bill Jacobs of Rich Square and Jessie Jacobs of Paterson.

Amanda Hayer

CORAPEAKE n Amanda Bowser “Fuzzy” Hayer, 66, died December 17, 2005 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va. She was the widow of McCoy Peter Hayer.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, Corapeake, by the Rev. William S. Norman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Mrs. Hayer was employed at the London FOF Coat Factory. She was a member of Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn H. Walton and Shirley Phelps, both of Corapeake and Annette Jordan of Hobbsville; one sister, Marie Bowser of Corapeake; two brothers, Willie Ward Johnson of Sunbury and Charlie Bowser of Trenton, NJ; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Franklin W. Longson

AHOSKIE – Franklin William Longson, Jr., 64, of South Commerce Street, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at his home.

Mr. Longson was born in Tiverton, Rhode Island, and was retired after 21 years of service in the United States Navy.

He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and was an active member of the Brotherhood of Mars Hill Baptist Church.

He was also a member of the Goose Creek and Raleigh Lion’s Club.

William was a skilled woodcrafter and took great pride in his woodcrafting and painting.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna Hoggard Longson; three daughters, Lisa L.

Pittman and husband, Rev. Corell Pittman of Spring Hope, NC, Lauri L. Piper and husband, Rev. Robby Piper, Lorna L. Piper and husband, Steve Piper, all of Franklinton, NC; a son Billy Longson and wife, Pam of Zebulon, NC; a sister, Bette Reid of Tiverton, RI; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m.

at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Jim Cox, Rev. Corell Pittman and Rev. Robby Piper, officiating.

Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, and other times at the home.

Rev. E.A. Parham II

PARHAM

– Rev. E.A. Parham II, D.Div., 89, a native of Hertford County, died December 18, 2005 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville, OH. He was the widower of Madeline Inez Holland Parham.

Dr. Parham attended Virginia Seminary, Lynchburg, VA in 1942, graduated from Shaw University, Raleigh, NC, in 1945.

He graduated from Shaw Divinity School in 1946.

He received his Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from The Shaw Divinity School in 1958. He served as assistant pastor, First Baptist Church, Roanoke, VA, and as pastor at the Spring Hill Baptist Church, Brookneal, VA, the William Grove Baptist Church, Danville, VA, the First Baptist Church, Lillington, NC and back as an assistant pastor at First Baptist Church in Roanoke, prior to being called to Columbus, OH as Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in 1949.

Survivors include his sisters, Etta Lee Roberts, Linnie Sue Jordan,

Littie P. Murphy, Bettie Rebecca Ingram; his sons Earley A. Parham III of Westerville, OH, F. Russell Parham of Cottage Grove, MN, Christopher Brian Parham of Philadelphia, PA and Jonathan Holland Parham of New Orleans, LA.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Columbus, Ohio at the Trinity Baptist Church on Friday. Final service will be held on Tuesday at the Mill Neck Baptist Church, RR 1, Como, NC 12 Noon Visitation, 1:00 Worship Celebration. Pastor Melvin Wilson, Officiate, The Rev. Dr. C. R. Edwards, Eulogist.

Ollie W. Oldham

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Ollie Willoughby Oldham, 90, a native of Bertie County, died December 20, 2005. She was the widow of Eugene Kenneth Oldham.

Mrs. Oldham was retired from Leggetts in downtown Portsmouth where she was a buyer. She was longtime member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Ann Lawson of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; sons, Kenneth Poe Oldham of Chesapeake and Robert Lynn Oldham of Windsor, Va.; one sister, Frances Moore of North Carolina; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at 2256 Capri Circle, Chesapeake.

Robert H. Brinkley Jr.

SUFFOLK, Va. – Robert Herbert &uot;Herb&uot; Brinkley Jr., 77, a native of Nansemond County, died December 19, 2005.

Brinkley opened Herb’s BBQ, which he owned and operated for more than 50 years. Herb was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church and was on the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jernigan Brinkley of Suffolk; a son, Robert Herbert Brinkley III of Hickory; daughters, Cynthia B. Winslow of Suffolk, Melinda B. Trostle of Suffolk and Betsy B. and Tim Briggs of Sunbury; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church by the Rev. Stewart McCarter and the Rev. Jonathan Rissmiller. Entombment will be at Nansemond – Suffolk Cemetery. Dick Wagenbach

FRANKLIN, Va. – Richard Charles &uot;Dick&uot; Wagenbach, 74, a native of Barron, Wis., died December 20, 2005 at East Pavilion.

Wagenbach was a longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church and was educated in Franklin. He joined his father in the family business, M.O. Wagenbach & Sons General Contractors. He became a skilled wood craftsman and opened his own business, Wagenbach Craft Shop, where he built clock cases and fine furniture reproductions. He was recognized as one of the outstanding furniture makers in Virginia.

Survivors include two brothers, Dean Franklin Wagenbach of Como and Garold Arvid Wagenbach; and grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Myron Simmons and the Rev. Edward Johnson. The burial will be at Poplar Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to High Street United Methodist Church or the Franklin Fire Department.
