Rams roll past Pungo

BELHAVEN – Both varsity teams at Ridgecroft School got off to a good start.

The Rams knocked off Pungo Christian Academy in both games to begin their Tarheel Independent Conference campaigns 1-0.

In the varsity girl’s game, Ridgecroft secured a 44-37 victory thanks to giving up just nine points in the first half.

The Lady Rams led 15-5 after the first quarter and 26-9 at the intermission.

Junior Jo Revelle Murray led the way for Ridgecroft with nine points followed by Hayes Bryant with eight. Sarah Beth Greene and April Piland added seven points each followed by Stephanie Northcott with six points, Jessica Bolton with five and Lauren Lilley with two points.

Hunter Johnson led Pungo with 23 points.

The Lady Rams, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the league, will be without junior Kristen Cayton for the rest of the season. Cayton suffered a torn ACL and will have surgery later this month.

In the boy’s game, Chris Hill lit it up for 31 points followed by Michael Edwards’ 13 points as Ridgecroft won 69-32.

The Rams had six points from Evans Jones, five from John Alexander and four each from Win Joyner and Drew Jones. William Alexander and Dustin Baker added two each.

Tim Boone’s club is 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the TIC.
