Martha Riddick

EURE n Martha Lee Burley Riddick, 83, a native of Gates County, died November 16, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. She was the widow of Charlie L. Riddick.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Sunbury. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Audrey Walker of Elizabeth City, Maude Riddick of Brooklyn, NY and Evelyn Riddick of Chesapeake, Va.; five sons, Charlie Riddick of Alcolu, SC, Michael Riddick of Ahoskie, Jarvis Riddick of Brooklyn, Willie Riddick of Gates and George Riddick; two sisters, Estelle Malone of Baltimore, Md., and Helen Boone of Suffolk; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Nick Nixon Jr.

COURTLAND, Va. –

Rubin Wayward &uot;Nick&uot; Nixon Jr., 77, a native of Gates County, died November 15, 2005, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Nixon was the owner of Nick’s TV Space Tech Inc. having been in business in Franklin since 1959. An Army veteran, he was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, Cypress Cove Country Club and the American Legion Post No. 73.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Brooks Nixon; and two brothers, Leon and Phillip Nixon.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Kay Barstow Gentry and the Rev. Tommy Speight. Burial, with military honors, followed at Southampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038 or a favorite church.

James Alston

ROCKY MOUNT n James Edward Alston, 60, died November 17, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Zena Mae Vrecenar

CHESAPEAKE, Va.- Zena Mae Vrecenar, 83, a native of Conway, died November 14, 2005, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was the widow of Michael J. Vrecenar Sr.

retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an electrician. She was a Baptist and member of Ladies’ Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Branch No. 37 and Victory Lanes Duckpin Bowling League.

Survivors include three sons, Frederick Kullman of Colorado Springs, Thomas Kullman Sr. of Chesapeake and Michael J. Vrecener Jr. of Colorado Springs.; one sister, Stella Evelyn Walker of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Wayne Davis of Asheville, Lewis Davis and Wilbur Davis, both of Sacramento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Gene V. Primm. Entombment was in Meadowbrook Mausoleum.

Virginia B. Wise

SUFFOLK, Va. – Virginia Bracy Wise, 78, a native Rich Square, died November 15, 2005. She was the widow of Garland M. Wise Sr.

She was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Adults 50 and up Sunday School class. She was a member of the VFW Post No. 9382 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Schnell of Virginia Beach and Flo and Pat Shumate of Roanoke, Va.; son, Garland M. Wise Jr. of Suffolk; a sister, Ruth Parker; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Nansemond River Baptist Church by Dr. Tim Piland. Interment was in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Nansemond River Baptist Church Building Fund, 2896 Bridge Road, Suffolk, VA 23435. Parr Funeral Home was in charge.

Donna A. Ingram

GASTON n Donna A. Ingram, 46, Patterson, N.J., formerly of Gaston, died November 15, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Ozzie Nicholson

ROCKY MOUNT n Ozzie Nicholson, 48, died November 15, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bear Swamp Baptist Church, Littleton. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Cmdr. John Charles Koenig, U.S. Navy retired, 57, died November 15, 2005, in Reston, Va.

BRONX, NY n John R. Cooper, 71, died November 17, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Baptist Church, Windsor. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Cooper family cemetery.
