AHOSKIE – Several amendments to the Town of Ahoskie’s schedule of fees and services were approved here Tuesday.

Ahoskie Town Manager Tony Hammond presented the proposal to members of Town Council during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Noting that the fee schedule was formally adopted by Town Council in July, Hammond pointed out that several amendments were now necessary.

Those amendments include the following:

Adding the word “renovations” to zoning permits dealing with new additions to single family and multi family dwellings. The fees for the permit remain unchanged – $150 for single family additions or renovations and $300 for multi-family units.

Also under zoning permits, the town has added a fee of $250 for those commercial/industrial business owners seeking a permit for an existing structure and/or property. The cost for a zoning permit in regards to a new commercial/industrial property remains unchanged at $500.

A demolition permit has been added to “other fees” charged by the town. That fee is set at $100 and it applies to both residential and commercial property.

Also added to the fee schedule is a $200 deposit for water service to new or existing commercial property.

Additionally, the town clarified its “recheck fee” for water services. That fee is $15, but will not be charged if the meter was read in error.

Continuing under Water Service Fees, the town added a $50 administrative fee for customers wishing to transfer their current account.

Town Council members also approved a new item under Miscellaneous Fees. That addition is a $10 fee for burial registration for the Town of Ahoskie Cemetery.
