WOODLAND n Lois Thomas Cherry, 52, died September 21, 2005.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Jerusalem Baptist Church by the Rev. Jane V. Mann. Burial was in the church cemetery. Smith-Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square, was in charge.

Earline B. Stephenson

PENDLETON – Earline Beatrice Stephenson, 68, died September 24, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church, Severn. Engram Funeral Home, Courtland, Va., is in charge.

Emma B. Williams

NORFOLK, Va. – Emma Beatrice &uot;Bea Emma&uot; Williams, 83, a native of Bertie County, died September 23, 2005, at Sentara Nursing Center. She was the widow of Joseph Lee Williams Sr.

Survivors include five daughters, Wilsonia, Leatrice, Brenda, Mary and Marie; one son, Gary; a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul COGIC, 1615 Isaac St., by Dr. Wilbert Daniels. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Beach Funeral Services Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, was in charge. Beach Funeral Services, Inc., is in charge.

Hazel P. Lahy

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Hazel Perry Lahy, 72, a native of Murfreesboro, died September 26, 2005, in her residence. She was the widow of Jack Lahy.

Mrs. Lahy was retired from the Giant Open Air Market/Farm Fresh.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Smith and Jackie Dumire, both of Portsmouth; a son, Ricky Lahy of Chesapeake; sisters, Viola Pulley, Clara Garrison and Betty Cookson; a brother, Wayne Perry; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Olive Branch Cemetery by Dr. Gary Edens. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ComfortCare Hospice.

Diane C. Long

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Diane Carole Long of Shipman, Va., and formerly of Portsmouth, died Sept. 24, 2005.

A memorial service will be Saturday in Shipman, Va. Reynolds Funeral Home is in charge.

ROCKY MOUNT n Annie Bell Lynch, 63, died September 27, 2005 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark AME Church in Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Doris Lindsey. Interment will be in Mann's Chapel AME Church Cemetery, Whitakers. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Bob Shoulars

RICH SQUARE n Bob Shoulars, 48, died September 24, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Church of God, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Arthur Clark. Burial will be in Branches Chapel Church Cemetery, Rich Square. A visitation will be conducted from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith-Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home.

Jo Ann Hall

EDENTON n Jo Ann Baker Smith Hall, 62, died Monday, September 26, 2005.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Hall, a native of the Pactolus community of Pitt County, was a graduate of Washington High School, East Carolina University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For more than 40 years she worked in Social Services, serving Beaufort and Pitt Counties, as well as the State of North Carolina, working in various supervisory capacities and consulting. Currently she was director of Social Services for Hertford County. For more than 35 years she was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher.

An outdoor person by nature, Mrs. Hall enjoyed fishing and boating. She was a compassionate person who felt called to her profession and greatly enjoyed reaching out to serve those in need. She was also a devoted family person who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

She is survived by her husband, James A. Hall of Edenton; a son, Dwayne A. Smith and wife, Amanda, of Winterville; stepchildren, James, John, Jimbo and Warren; granddaughter, Jenna Brook Smith of Winterville; stepgrandchildren, Ian and Whit Stroud of Winterville; and sister, Rita S. Baker of Winterville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Sadie Hyman

DURHAM n Sadie Leigh Hoggard Hyman, formerly of Windsor, died unexpected at her residence over the weekend. She was the widow of Robert Edward Hyman.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Edgewood Cemetery. Flowers will be received, but memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1330, Durham, NC 27702 or any organization of choice. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Survivors include a daughter, Alice Jennings Hyman of Durham; a son, Robert Edward Hyman of Chapel Hill; and a grandson.
