Rams best Bears

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School took a hard-fought, four-set volleyball victory over Hertford County here Monday.
In a match in which no game was decided by more than six points, the Lady Rams secured a 25-22, 19-25, 28-26, 25-20 win over the Bears.
Ridgecroft took the lead in the first set and, despite a solid Hertford County rally, were able to hold on for the win.
The Lady Bears did similarly in the second set, grabbing the early momentum and riding that to a 25-19 win.
In the third set, it took extra points to determine the winner with the Lady Rams finally managing a 28-26 win. They then took the fourth set by five.
A day later, Ridgecroft had a five-set battle with Hobgood and managed to win in a five-set tiebreaker.
The Lady Rams took the first set 25-21 with the Lady Raiders coming back to take set number two by a count of 26-24.
The seesaw battle saw Ridgecroft win set three 25-22 and Hobgood grab a 25-18 win in the fourth set. Ridgecroft came back for a 15-11 win in the tiebreaker.
Stephanie Northcott led the Lady Rams both days, securing nine kills against Hobgood. Sarah Beth Greene also had a big offensive day with eight kills. She added two blocks.
Victoria Brown had five kills, two blocks and was good on 18 of 20 serves for the Lady Rams.
Jo Revelle Murray was good on 12 of 15 serves and had nine assists for Ridgecroft.
In jayvee action, Ridgecroft took a straight-set win over Hobgood. They won 25-16 and 26-24.
The Lady Rams (4-2) will host Terra Ceia Christian School at 4 p.m. Friday in a Tarheel Independent Conference game.
