AHOSKIE – What’s better than making All-State for a third consecutive year?

Maybe making two All-State teams.

Sarah Beth Greene was selected to the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association All-State teams in both basketball and soccer. It marks the third time she has been chosen for the soccer team.

&uot;It’s a great honor to be recognized throughout the whole state,&uot; Greene said of the award.

A three-sport athlete at Ridgecroft, Greene made three All-Roanoke-Chowan teams including volleyball, basketball and soccer. She was selected Best Offensive Player in basketball and Best Defensive Player in soccer.

&uot;Sarah Beth always gave me 100 percent,&uot; volleyball coach Nancy Brittenham said. &uot;She was always a team player and always came though when I needed her to.&uot;

Her skills in basketball may have been even better.

&uot;There’s no doubt Sarah Beth was our go-to person,&uot; Ridgecroft Athletic Director and girls’ basketball coach Doug Cobbs said. &uot;She was the person we went to when we needed a basket or when we needed a defensive stop.&uot;

Greene’s accolades in basketball continued from beginning to end of the season. She was tabbed All-Tarheel Independent Conference, TIC Player of the Year, All-Tarheel Independent Conference Tournament and Tournament Most Valuable Player before making the state playoffs.

Once there, she led her team offensively, including hitting a game-winning shot with less than 10 seconds remaining to send the Lady Rams to the Final Four.

&uot;It’s a shot I’ll never forget the rest of my life,&uot; she said. &uot;It is pretty cool making that shot at the last second.&uot;

After taking the basketball team to the Final Four, Greene took her place in goal for the Lady Rams’ soccer team.

&uot;She’s a great goalie with great hands,&uot; Lady Rams’ assistant coach Becky Johnson said. &uot;I thought she was the best goalie in the conference and the best we’ve seen.&uot;

Lady Rams’ head coach Beth Bryant agreed.

&uot;Sarah Beth gave it her all in our games,&uot; Bryant said. &uot;She was a clutch player. When things looked bad, we could count on her to pull it out.&uot;

In soccer, Greene was tabbed All-Coastal Plains Independent Conference and All-State.

During the year, she was also tabbed to the All-Tarheel Independent Conference Academic Team.

Greene said she was looking forward to returning to Ridgecroft for her senior season and was hoping the school could continue its winning ways.

&uot;I hope that we can have as much success as we have been having over the past few years,&uot; Greene said.

At Ridgecroft, Greene is a member of the BETA Club, the Key Club and SADD. She is the daughter of Debbie Daughtridge and David Greene.
