Ahoskie reaches finals

WILLIAMSTON – Ahoskie dropped into the Senior Little League District tournament’s loser’s bracket Wednesday.

They could have packed it in after a loss to Williamston, but the Ahoskie team won three consecutive games to earn their way back to the championship contest.

In the first loser’s bracket game, Ahoskie scored seven run in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Chocowinity 10-2.

In the fourth inning, Patrick Dilday and Mitchell Godwin had RBI-singles and Miles Harrell and Cade Larabee had RBI-doubles.

Ahoskie scored two runs in the fifth frame thanks in part to a Neal Brinkley RBI-double.

Tyler Burden had two hits to lead Ahoskie.

Thursday saw Ahoskie square off with Edenton, but the game was delayed until Friday because of rain.

Ahoskie scored seven runs in the top of the eighth to break open a 3-all game and win 10-7.

Highlighting the top of the eighth was Patrick Dilday hitting a three-run homer, his second of the tournament, and Miles Harrell lacing an RBI-double.

In the top of the sixth with two out and nobody on, Tyler Pryor doubled. Daniel Merritt scored on an Austin Britton double to tie the game at 2-all.

Chase Riddick had an RBI-single in the top of the seventh to deadlock the score at 3-all.

Pryor started and gave up just five hits. Dilday got the win in relief.

The final game to earn a spot in the championship was Ahoskie meeting Plymouth.

The Ahoskie squad was down 6-5 heading into the sixth inning, but scored two runs to secure a 7-6 victory.

In that fateful sixth inning, with two outs trailing by one, Austin Britton reached on an error which scored Chase Riddick. Britton scored the winning run on a wild throw by second on the play.

Tyler Pryor had a solo homer in the third inning for Ahoskie.

Mitchell Godwin started and pitched three and one-third innings while Patrick Dilday picked up his third win in the tournament while coming in as a reliever.
