Ahoskie eliminated

WILLIAMSTON – Williamston eliminated Ahoskie from the Pony League All-Star tournament here Sunday evening.

The home-standing team grabbed a 12-2 win to stop Ahoskie in the best-of-three series.

Williamston opened the scoring with 11 runs in the top of the first inning. They used seven walks, three singles and a double to score the runs.

Travis Ellis singled for Ahoskie in the bottom of the first, but was left stranded.

Williamston added another run to lead 12-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Edward Joyner singled and went to second when Richard Burns reached on a fielder’s choice. Joyner and Burns advance on a wild pitch.

Joyner then scored on a Josh Lane RBI-groundout and Burns scored on a Grayson Toms RBI-groundout. The game ended after five complete with Williamston winning 12-2.

Andy Daughtridge pitched all five innings and suffered the loss.

&uot;We had a good year,&uot; coach David Ellis said. &uot;Williamston is a good team. We had a bad top of the first in this game, but beat them 2-1 the rest of the way.&uot;
