Kidnapping, assault charges filed

JACKSON – Let it be known that the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office always gets their man.

A case that the Sheriff’s Office has been steadily investigating since last year came to an end last week with the arrest of a Richmond, Va. man wanted on assault and kidnapping charges.

Working closely with the Richmond Police Department, Northampton Sheriff’s Detective Brenda Burnette had Earl Cornelius Hammond, 43, arrested. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and second degree kidnapping.

Hammond waived extradition and was brought back to Northampton County where he was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

The alleged crime dealt with assault on a female and kidnapping in the Pleasant Hill area of Northampton County.

Burnette was assisted in the case by Northampton Deputy Wardie Vincent Jr.
