Otis L. Davis
ASHBORO n Mrs. Otis McLean Lassiter Davis, 91, a native of Northampton County, died May 21, 2005 at her home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, by the Rev. Sid Collins. Burial will be in the Davis family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to services. Condolences may be sent to the family at masseyfuneralhome@netscape.net.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Davis of Ashboro; and two sisters, Hazel Staton of Suffolk, Va., and Essie Woods of Conway.
David L. Rankins
EDENTON n David Lee Rankins, 86, a native of Bertie County, died May 17, 2005 at Chowan Hospital.
A funeral was conducted Saturday at Whosoever Will Church of God in Christ, Edenton, by the Rev. Willie J. Best. Burial was in Ashland Baptist Church Cemetery, Merry Hill. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, was in charge.
Rankins was a member of Ashland Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Janice Arnold of Baltimore, Md.
Rose Bryant
RICH SQUARE n Rose Mae Arrick Bryant, 62, a native of Northampton County, died May 19, 2005 at Halifax Memorial Hospital, Roanoke Rapids.
A funeral was conducted Monday at First Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. Rex Edwards. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, was in charge.
Mrs. Bryant was a member of First Baptist Church, Rich Square and also an usher and missionary.
Survivors include her husband, Waverly Bryant Sr. of the home; children, Rose Marie Bryant of Rich Square, Waverly Bryant Jr. of Woodland, Pamela Walton of Lewiston, Helen Jordan of Woodland, Pattie Lassiter of Rich Square and Lionel Norfleet of Lewiston; a brother, Joe Arrick of Aynor, SC; a sister, Candora Smith of Paterson, N.J.; and 16 grandchildren.
Lola Mabrey
RALEIGH n Lola Lee Mabrey, 68, a native of Hertford County, died May 17, 2005 at Wake Medical Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Pentecostal Church, Raleigh, by Pastor Wayne Huntley. Burial will be in Menola Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodland. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church and graduated from Governor Morehead School for the Negro Blind and Deaf.
Survivors include a son, Roosevelt Mabrey Jr. of Raleigh; six sisters, Theora McLean of Richmond, Va., Arlease Harris of New Haven, Conn., Elizabeth Robertson of Chester, PA, Blannie Futrell Evans of Raleigh, Evelyn Poole of West Haven; and three brothers, Johnnie Futrell Jr. of Morristown, N.J., Allen Futrell of New Haven and William Futrell of Fayetteville.
Florence T. Harper
MERRY HILL n Florence T. Harper, 70, a native of Adams County, Ill., died May 21, 2005 in Pitt Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Mid-Way Merry Fire Department.
Mrs. Harper was a homemaker and a member of Capeharts Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurie A. Jones of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, Michael B. Taylor and Robert E. Taylor, both of Merry Hill; and a brother, Walter L. Inman of Havana, IL.
Mary E. Patterson
EDENTON – Mary Elizabeth Enyeart Patterson, 89, a native of Saxton, Pa., died May 21, 2005, in her home. She was the widow of Dr. Barnard D. Patterson.
Mrs. Patterson attended Edenton United Methodist Church. In earlier years prior to her marriage, she was a registered nurse.
Surviving include two daughters, Susan Jane Halligan of Huntington, N.Y., and Betsy Brown of Winton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Ralph Epps. Following services, the family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home and all other times will be at the residence, 117 Country Club Drive. Burial will be later in the week at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Long Island, N.Y. The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions in her memory be directed to the Edenton United Methodist Church, 225 Virginia Road, Edentosn, NC 27932.
Alice P. Sykes
KITTY HAWK -Alice Powell Sykes, a native of Gates County, died May 20, 2005 at her residence.
Survivors include three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sykes was a pioneer in the tourism and hospitality business in Dare County. She built the original Sea Ranch in 1952 in Southern Shores. Taken by the Ash Wednesday Storm, Alice built the new Sea Ranch in Kill Devil Hills in 1962 where it stands today.
A private graveside service will be held at the Jackson family farm in Gates County, Friday, May 27, 2005, at 2 p.m. A memorial celebration of Alice’s life will be held at the Sea Ranch hotel July 20, 2005. Rita H. Eure
EURE -Rita Love Harrell Eure, 60, a native of Gates County, died May 19, 2005, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mrs. Eure was a homemaker, she had worked with the former Taylor’s Pharmacy in Gatesville. She was an active member of Eure Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was involved in the children’s activities.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon Eldridge Eure; two sons, Clyde G. Eure of Arlington, Texas, and David N. Eure of Gates; sisters, Carolyn H. Taylor of Chapel Hill and Nan H. Hudgins of Hobbsville; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Sunday in Eure Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Larry D. Saunders
GATES n Larry David Saunders, 87, a native of Gates County, died May 19, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stoney Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Holloman. Burial will be in the Saunders family cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Saunders was a retired farmer and a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Saunders of the home; four sons, Reginald Saunders of Bowie, Md., David Saunders and Isaiah Smith, both of Gates, and Anthony Gatling of Silver Springs, Md.; two daughters, Yvonne Boone of Newsom, Va., and Mary Coleman of Forestville, Md.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Annie Outlaw
COLERAIN — Annie Marie Outlaw, 74, a native of Bertie County, died May 18, 2005, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton. Burial will be in the Sessoms family cemetery, Colerain.
Survivors include one son, Russell Outlaw of Colerain; one brother, David Harrell of Suffolk, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Silas Jones
WINTON — Silas Williemac Jones, 94, a native of Gates County, died May 22, 2005 at Britt Haven of Edenton.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Jones of Winton; four sons, Willie Mac Jones of Roduco, William P. Jones of Washington, D.C., Lewis S. Jones and James M. Jones, both of Waterbury, Conn.; three daughters, Mary L. Reed and Lucille Rodgers, both of Suffolk, and Nellie Roundtree of Roduco; one brother, William E. Spruill of Gatesville; one sister, Sarah Riddick of Gates; 42 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John Community Christian Church, Roduco, by the Rev. Andre Dent.
Burial will be in the family cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
