WINTON – Hertford County is seeking citizen involvement.
Thanks to a push from Commissioner John Pierce, the Hertford County Board of Commissioners are seeking applications from those interested in serving on various boards.
The Board will be advertising the vacancies that will exist from July 1 – December 31 and seeking community involvement on those boards.
&uot;The people of the county are its biggest asset,&uot; Pierce insisted. &uot;The people throughout Hertford County have something to offer and I felt the strong urge to get more people involved in county government.&uot;
Pierce said he wanted to see people from all walks of life involved in the boards appointed by the Hertford County Commissioners.
&uot;I hope we get applications from people with a variety of backgrounds,&uot; he said. &uot;Whether they are farmers, loggers, carpenters, whatever. As a commissioner, I felt it was important to get more people involved.&uot;
Those interested in applying must be a fulltime resident of Hertford County and be current in the payment of their property tax.
Some board and commission seats require designated skills or training as specified by regulation. In cases where special requirements exist, the commissioners will appoint only those who meet the guidelines.
Those wishing to obtain an application and complete listing of all the appointed boards and commissions should call the office of the Hertford County Manager at 358-705 or visit the county website at http://www.co.hertford.nc.us.
Those vacancies that will arise in the next six months include the Albemarle Regional Library Board, Hertford County ABC Board, Hertford County Library Board, Mid-East Board, the Roanoke-Chowan Community College Board of Trustees, the Tri-County Airport Authority and the Hertford County Social Services Board.
A full list of vacancies will be printed in the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald on Thursday.
