Nezzie P. Haste

ELIZABETH CITY – Nezzie Perry Haste, 89, a native of Bertie County, died May 8, 2005, in Carolina House of Elizabeth City. She was the widow of Thomas Erie Haste Sr. Mrs. Haste was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. Survivors include two daughters, Chrystal Towe of Hertford and Faye Lewis of Williamsburg; one son, T. Erie Haste Jr. of Hertford; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be in Cedar Wood Cemetery.

John P. Wheeler Sr.

RICH SQUARE n John Paul Wheeler, 62, of West Jackson Street, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Sunbeam, Virginia, a son of the late Magnus Henry and Nellie Walker Wheeler and was a Baptist.

He was a member of the Rich Square Masonic Lodge and was head sewing machine mechanic for Four Seasons Apparel.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Harrell Wheeler; a daughter, Tiffany Wheeler Bryant of Rich Square; a son, John Paul Wheeler, Jr. of Woodland; four sisters, Helen W. Story of Beaufort, GA, Nellie W. Daughtry of Colerain, Mary W. Jenkins of Aulander, Betty Bopelewski of Raleigh; four brothers, Vernon Wheeler of Smithfield, VA, Magnus H. Wheeler, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, Grady Wheeler of Goldsboro, Robert Wheeler of Virginia Beach, VA and grandchildren, Brandi Bryant, Olivia Wheeler and Madison Bryant.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Lester Jarrett, officiating.

Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

Annie Harrell

POWELLSVILLE n Annie Love Evans Harrell, 92, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, in Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Mrs. Harrell was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late Williams C. Evans, Sr. and Mamie Fairless Evans.

She was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church and was a retired sales clerk for Belk Tyler Company.

Survivors include a daughter, Rose Marie Harrell Asbell and husband, Thomas E. of Powellsville; a son, William D. Harrell and wife, Danise of Colerain; a sister, Edith Evans Freeman of Blacksburg, VA; grandchildren, Thomas E. Asbell, II and wife, Anita, Joan Bundy and husband, Willie, Michael Harrell and wife, Lisa, and Stacy Harrell and wife, Lisa; great grandchildren, Ava Grace Asbell, Emerson Asbell, Conrad Asbell, Taylor Bundy, Jenna Bundy, and Dylan Harrell.

Mrs. Harrell was predeceased by her husband, Riddick D. Harrell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ed Davis and Rev. Robert May, officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

Clementine Bowser

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Clementine P. Bowser, 52, died May 9, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

COLERAIN n Dora Elena Riddick, died May 8, 2005, at his residence.

Gracie L. Parker

GATES n Gracie Lola Parker, died May 7, 2005 at Down East Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gates.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Linza Weaver. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Gilbert Parker of Ahoskie; two sisters, Nannie Mullens of Elizabeth City and Thelma Saunders of Ahoskie; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
