MURFREESBORO – In an unexpected move here Tuesday, Murfreesboro Town Council members appointed Lloyd Hill to fill the remaining term of former council member Mary &uot;Booker&uot; Daniels.
The decision, made following a motion by council member Wayne Brown and seconded by councilman Billy Parker, was executed without opposition during the council and committee reports section of the meeting.
&uot;I feel that Lloyd Hill will be a good person to fill this vacancy,&uot; said Brown. &uot;I think he will serve the town well until the people have an opportunity to select another member to the board.&uot;
Although Hill has admitted to having no previous political experience, he served several years ago on the Hertford County Economic Development Commission, in the position of EDC chair.
In a latter conversation, Hill stated that despite having never been elected to a public office, he would be &uot;glad to serve the town&uot; for the interim.
&uot;I told the members of the town council, who approached me with the request that I would be delighted to serve in the event they decided to appoint me to the position,&uot; he said.
Hill is self-employed as a real estate agent broker with Hill Realty of Murfreesboro.
In March, Daniels, who was the first woman ever to be elected to serve on the town council in Murfreesboro, recommended Sarah Wallace to backfill her position, expressing hope that her fellow council members would seek to maintain a woman’s voice on the board.
However, that decision will now rest in the hands of voters casting their ballots in the November municipal election.
Hill will likely begin his duties next month.
