Braves win on the road

MONTGOMERY, Al – The Braves grabbed a 6-1 baseball victory here Tuesday.

Chowan College scored in five different innings to improve to 11-5-1 on the season as they picked up the win over Huntingdon College.

The Braves started in the top of the first frame when Brandon Hamlett doubled with one out. Nick Hagler then drove in Hamlett on an RBI-single to give Chowan a 1-0 advantage.

The lead was doubled in the second inning when Patrick Swift led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice by Matt Dize that helped the Braves lead 2-0. Huntingdon got on the board with one run in the bottom of the second thanks to an A.J. Johnson RBI-single.

Dize tripled with one out in the fourth frame and then scored on Michael Kellett’s RBI-single that moved the advantage to 3-1.

The Braves then added one in the fifth and two in the eighth to claim the win.

Chowan put together a 13-hit performance led by Hamlett. He was 4-for-5 with on RBI and two runs scored.

Kellett turned in a 2-for-3 performance while Hagler checked in at 2-for-4. Also collecting hits were P.J. Sadler, Swift, Dize, Danny Lydon and Dale West.

Jonathan Smith went nine innings, giving up eight hits and only one run to pick up his first pitching victory of the season.

The Braves will play at home today (Saturday) when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
