RICH SQUARE – On Thursday, March 10, Rich Square Police arrested Michael Ray Jacobs, 20, of 206 Railroad Street, for alleged statutory rape involving a minor.

According to Police Chief Bo Roye, the victim’s mother found out about the alleged rape on March 9 when her daughter confessed to the incident, which had taken place approximately six months prior.

&uot; The mother of the young lady reported it to our office and his arrest was a result of our investigation,&uot; Roye said, noting that the girl had been afraid to share the information earlier.

&uot;It was a hard thing to do, but she did the right thing in reporting it,&uot; he said.

Jacobs was taken to the Northampton County Jail and placed under a $25,000 bond.

In a separate investigation, Jacobs was discovered stealing cigarettes on surveillance tapes.

&uot;During the course of the investigation concerning the armed robbery that took place here on March 1 at the Duck Thru, Jacobs was observed stealing cigarettes on the surveillance tapes,&uot; Roye said.

He was arrested March 8 for misdemeanor larceny and released after posting $1,000 bond.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for March 31.
