According to Detective Frank Timberlake, the Bertie Sheriff’s Narcotics Division was responding to complaints from concerned citizens about the residence located at 139 New Rd.

&uot;The narcotics office has received complaints concerning Hal Wiggins and the illegal use of controlled substance,&uot; Timberlake said. &uot;Surveillance was set up on Mr. Wiggins.&uot;

After receiving information that Wiggins and others were in procession of crack cocaine, Detectives Timberlake and Kenny Gilliam located Wiggins in his 1986 GMC pickup truck. After stopping the vehicle, the lawmen searched Wiggins and his two passengers (Cobb and White). Three hits of crack cocaine were recovered in the truck.

The officers seized Wiggins’ truck because it was used in commission of a felony, which was obtaining a controlled substance – crack cocaine.
