Alice J. Evans

COLERAIN n Alice Jernigan Evans, 61, a native of Martin County, died February 13, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Layton Gray Evans.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Elm Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Thompson and the Rev. Preston Jernigan. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to either Elm Grove Baptist Church or to the Bertie County Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Evans was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church and an accountant. She was also a member of the National Association of Public Accountants since 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer E. Godwin; a sister, Lou J. Jernigan; both of Colerain; and a brother, Vandy Jernigan of Greenville.

Heneritta Lynch

ROCKY MOUNT n Heneritta Lynch, 89, died February 13, 2005.

Thomas Jenkins

SCOTLAND NECK n Thomas Jenkins, 100, died February 13, 2005 in Scotland Neck.

A graveside funeral was conducted Wednesday at Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md. Whidbee Funeral Home, Scotland Neck, was in charge.

Joanne F. Edwards

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Joanne F. Edwards, 69, a native of Savannah, Ga., died February 13, 2005, at a local hospital. She was the widow of Henry A. Edwards Sr.

Survivors include three sons, Henry A. Edwards Jr., Kevin S. Edwards, both of Virginia Beach, and Charles Randell Cowart of Gates County; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and four sisters.

A service of remembrance will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. Friends may pay condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com .

Samuel Oliver

MURFREESBORO n Samuel Oliver, 80, a native of Hertford County, died February 15, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

Tyrone M. Carter Jr.

COFIELD n Tyrone M. Carter Jr., 32, a native of Hertford County, died February 12, 2005.

A funeral was conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Charlie Carter. Burial will be in the Pope family cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.

Carter was employed with Smithfield Packing and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Tyrone M. Carter Sr. and Fredia Pope Carter of Cofield; one brother, Terrence Carter of Smithfield; and one sister, Tara Carter of Hampton, Va.

Ethan E. Mizelle

COLERAIN n Ethan Elmer Mizelle, 75, a native of Bertie County, died February 14, 2005 at his home.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Preston Jernigan and the Rev. Al Hughson. Memorial gifts may be made to either the Bertie County Rescue Squad or to the Askewville Fire Department. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Mizelle was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church where he was a trustee. He was also retired from Eastern Fuels.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Brown Mizelle of Colerain; a daughter, Vicki M. Davidson of Colerain; a son, Russell E. Mizelle of Wendell; three sisters, Lillian M. Evans of Chesapeake, Va., Inetta Mizelle of Colerain and Christine M. Cowand of Merry Hill; a brother, William L. Mizelle of Colerain; and one grandchild.

ROCKY MOUNT n Annie Bell Phillips Cheeks, died February 14, 2005 in Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gethsemane Holiness Church, Battleboro, by the Rev. Essie O'Neal. Interment will be in Marks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Rocky Mount. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. in the chapel of. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Franklin D. Moody

OWINGS MILLS, Md. n Franklin D. Moody, 56, formerly of Garysburg, died February 14, 2005 at the V.A. Baltimore Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Baltimore, Md.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday with visitation one hour prior to the service in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Interment will be in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Gaston.

John Lee

JACKSON n John Lee, 86, died February 15, 2005 at Hampton Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center, Jackson.

A visitation will be conducted from 4 to 7 in the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Springfield Baptist Church, Halifax by the Rev. John Rooks. Interment will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson.

Rochelle Vaughan Jr.

GARYSBURG n Rochelle Vaughan Jr., died February 15, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A visitation will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Nebo Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Interment will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Aldine E. Snipes

MENOLA – Aldine Early Snipes, died February 15, 2005. She was born July 14, 1923, the sixth of seven children to Hershey C. and Geneva B. Early of Aulander, N.C. Born in the home and raised on the farm with her brothers and sisters she went from there to East Carolina Teachers College from which she graduated to begin a 38 year teaching career during which she taught English, History, and French. She taught in Bertie County N.C.

school system. Her many students now widely scattered still hold &uot;Miss Aldine&uot; in highest regard.

In 1950 Aldine was married to Raleigh Thomas (Charlie) Snipes and from that time maintained a household in Menola, N.C. To her union with Charlie was born Amy Annette Snipes.

Aldine is survived by her daughter, Amy Annette Snipes, Winton, N.C.; her beloved poodle, Maggie; brothers, Milton R. Early, Gloucester, Va.; Reginald S. Early and wife Joyce, Virginia Beach, Va.; brother in law, Robert Finley Snipes and wife Evelyn, Wilson, N.C.; sister in law, Maggie J. Early, Virginia Beach, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased for 32 years by her beloved husband Charlie, sisters Foy Mae Bazemore, and Helen Peele, brothers H. C. Early and Roy Early.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Garrett Funeral Home in Ahoskie, N.C. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will assemble at Garrett Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Thursday prior to services, and will receive friends after the interment at the Menola Community Building at Menola, N. C.

AHOSKIE n Blannie Matthews, died February 15, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. William Slade. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Mitchell of Vero Beach, Fla., and Gertrude Matthews of Torres, Bronx, N.Y.
