Rosalie Melvin

RALEIGH n Rosalie Melvin, formerly Rocky Lee Taylor of Conway, died January 24, 2005 at Springmoor Retirement Center in Raleigh.

Survivors include a half-sister, Eloise Ward of Conway and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home chapel, 300 St. Mary’s St. in Raleigh, with a viewing from 10 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave Raleigh, NC 27608.

John W. Powell

LEWISTON n John W. Powell Jr., 87, died January 25, 2005 at Three Rivers Nursing Home, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Anne T. Holley

GREENVILLE – Anne Tynes Holley, recently of Greenville, died on Sunday, January 23, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Holley was born and raised in Kelford, making Colerain her home following her marriage to Thomas Holley in 1943.

She was a homemaker and a &uot;farmer’s wife&uot; who enjoyed long distance travel as well as jaunts all over Bertie and adjacent counties.

She was a member of Colerain United Methodist Church and also attended Colerain Baptist Church before moving to Greenville in 1998.

She was active in her community through the United Methodist Women, the Colerain Civic Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was also a volunteer with the local hospice.

Her father and mother, Ernest Earl and Jennie Cobb Tynes, a brother, Earl Tynes, a sister, Mamie Tynes Roane, and her husband of 61 years, Thomas Holley,

precede her in death.

Surviving her is a brother, Charles H. Tynes and wife, Jimmie Joy, of Marietta, GA; a son, David Holley and wife, Kathy, of Meridian, ID;

three daughters, Theresa Holley of Greenville, Anita Holley of Boise, ID, and Margaret Holley Farmer and husband, Gerald, of Greenville; a nephew, Robert Shield Holley, Jr., of Big Fork, MT; a niece, Joy Lynn Tynes, of Marietta, GA; and four grandchildren, Luke and Seth Holley of Boise, ID and Ashley and John Worthington of Greenville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2004 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colerain United Methodist Church, PO Box 295, or to the Colerain Baptist Church, PO Box 126, Colerain, North Carolina, 27924.

Kathryn L. Lawrence

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. n Kathryn Lawrence, a native of Martin County, departed this life on January 23, 2005 at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the following location, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 142, Hassell, NC 27841. The body of the deceased can be viewed on Saturday, January 29, 2005 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Macedonia Church. The burial service will be held immediately after the service in Princeville, NC. Elizabeth H. Edwards

RALEIGH – Elizabeth Relfe Hobbs Edwards, 93, a native of Perquimans County, died January 24, 2005. She was the widow of E. Wahab Edwards.

She was an alumna of Duke University and East Carolina University, Class of 1932, and taught school in Wilmington and Farmville.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Relfe Edwards Carr of Raleigh; one sister, Nell Hobbs Gay of Seaboard; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount. Her family will gather for burial in the Relfe family plot in Old Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City, later that afternoon. Gifts to honor Relfe Edwards’ life may be made to the Becky Edwards Schaefer Junaluska Youth Fund, First United Methodist Church, 100 S. Church St., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Robert E. Copeland

SUFFOLK, Va. – Robert Earl Copeland, 60, died Jan. 24, 2005.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Earl and Lisa C. Copeland of Sunbury, N.C., Jimmy Lee Copeland of Gates County, N.C.; stepchildren, Bert Copeland of Chesterfield County, Va., and Brian Copeland of Emporia; grandchildren, Heather, Devin, Taylor, Amber and Tiffany; a brother, George T. Copeland of Suffolk; and a sister, Mary Sue C. Robinson of Myrtle Beach, S.C. A celebration of life will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home.

Ronnie G. Ayers

WINDSOR n Ronnie Gene Ayers, 63, a native of Washington County, died January 25, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. He was the widower of Jeanette Barnes Ayers.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas Biggs and the Rev. Edwin Long. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from his home. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, 6th Floor, NY, NY 10006.

Ayers was a retired auto body mechanic and owner of Bertie Body Shop. He was a member of the Southern Cruisers Motorcycle Riding Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Sonya A. White of Windsor; mother and stepfather, Ruth and Keith Hackney of Plymouth; a sister, Nancy; two brothers, Michael and Gary; a half brother, Tommy; and two grandchildren.

COLERAIN n Maddie White, died January 25, 2005 at her residence.

Cornelia Harris

ROCKY MOUNT n Cornelia Harris, 87, died January 26, 2005 at South Village Nursing Home, Rocky Mount.
