Clara Capehart

MERRY HILL – Clara Capehart, 91, died December 15, 2004 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Peterson Chapel Baptist Church, Merry Hill. Burial will be in Ashland Church Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Willie L. Boone Jr.

WOODLAND – Willie L. Boone Jr., 47, a native of Northampton County, died December 13, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by Brother Curtis Norman. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Christine W. Boone of Rocky Mount; his mother, Rose Boone of Rich Square; two sons, Willie Boone III of Raleigh and Calvin Boone of Rich Square; one daughter, Keren Whitaker of Raleigh; four brothers, Robert Boone of Florida, Dennis and Thomas Boone of Woodland and Scott Boone of Murfreesboro; four sisters, Maxine Deans of Woodland, Shirley Cox of Greenville, Christine Artis of Conway and Altessie Taylor of Jackson; and four grandchildren.

Elijah T. Howell

SUFFOLK, Va. – Elijah Thomas Howell, 76, a native of Nansemond County, died December 14, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Chapel UCC with Dr. Millard Boone III. Interment will be in Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Chapel is in charge.

Howell retired from Planters Peanut Co. after 20 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee Howell; five sons, Alvin Thomas Howell, Donald M. Mason, Lloyd Dennis Howell, Lawrence Howell and Jeffrey L. Howell, all of Suffolk; five daughters, the Rev. Carolyn Hodges of Suffolk, Sharon Smith of Detroit, Mich., Minister Barbara Cobb and Gloria Howell, both of Richmond, Va., and Felicia Watson of Suffolk; two brothers, Abraham Howell of Hampton and Algie T. Howell Jr. of Norfolk; three sisters, Ocie Mae Caldwell of Long Island, N.Y., Dorothy Boone of Suffolk and Dora Pruden of Gates; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Parks

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Robert Charles Parks, 65, a native of Aulander, died December 15, 2004, at a local hospital.

A service of remembrance will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by his sister-in-law, the Rev. Susan M. Sisk. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Parks was a founding member of the Pembroke Kiwanis Club, serving as past president with more than 30 years of perfect attendance.

Survivors include his wife, Carole M. Parks; his mother, Rose L. Parks of Suffolk; a daughter, Heather P. Lee of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Donald R. Parks of Chesapeake and Philip E. Parks of Suffolk.

George R. Stark

KELFORD – George R. Stark, 88, a native of Bertie County, died December 16, 2004 at is residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Kelford, by the Rev. Lycurgus R. Harrell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Stark retired from Guess Services in Washington, D.C., and was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church.

He is survived by his brother, Daniel Stark of Pensicola, Fla.

Elizabeth Hall

Elizabeth &uot;Betty&uot; Hall, age 92, died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie, after a brief illness.

Betty was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, to Wade Hill Humphries and Beatrice Sarrat Humphries July 28, 1912.

In 1948 she moved to Ahoskie with her husband, Cleveland Hall, who died December 14, 1970. A lifelong Presbyterian, she became a strong supporter of the local church and was a choir member for many years.

She joined Eastern Star Chapter 291 on March 3, 1964 and remained active until her health failed. Betty was also an enthusiastic fan of baseball, with the Atlanta Braves being her favorite team.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Cottie Eure, and loving friend and caregiver, Kathy Richmond, both of Ahoskie.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2004 at Highland Memorial Gardens by the Reverend Richard A. Rice. Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry, First Presbyterian Church, Box 159, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Massey Funeral Home of Aulander is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma E. Williams

AHOSKIE – Wilma Eley Williams, died December 14, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerryl Moody. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include a son, Maurio Demont Eley of Kernersville; one daughter, Portia Williams of Ahoskie; her parents, Rency and Almatie S. Eley of Ahoskie; six brothers, James Slaughter of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Eley of Park Forest, Ill., Ronald Eley of Omaha, Neb., Rency Eley of Suffolk, Va., Calvin Eley of Pasadena, Md., and Mervin Eley of Durham; four sisters, Joycelyn Eley of Durham, Icy E. Hedgepeth and Sonji Eley, both of Ahoskie and Thennie Speight of Charlotte; and one grandson.

Pearline Sessoms

AHOSKIE – Pearline Sessoms, 88, a native of Bertie County, died December 16, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerryl Moody. Burial will be in the Sessoms family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a retired dietician at Euclid General Hospital and a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Johnnie R. Sessoms Jr. of Ahoskie; four daughters, Annie Sessoms Johnson of Bowie, Md., Jessie Sessoms Durham of Cleveland, Ohio, Peggy Sessoms Lee and Barbara Sessoms Reed, both of Ahoskie; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
