Gaston officers arrest fugitives

GASTON – Two fugitives from Halifax County have been arrested by the Gaston Police Department.
According to Officer Joe Crisp, tips from citizens sparked both arrests.
&uot;We got a call about the whereabouts of a suspect wanted for probation violation and assault on a government official, &uot;Crisp said. &uot;We were able to locate the suspect, a Jerry Lee at 313 Craig St., Gaston and turn him over to the Halifax County authorities.&uot;
Crisp said the lead officer on the arrest was Kevin Lonesky of the Gaston Police Department.
This arrest took place around 8 p.m. Sunday, and within two hours, the two officers – assisted by Northampton County Deputy Wardie Vincent Jr., made a second arrest of yet another person wanted by Halifax County officials.
Crisp said, &uot;We received information on a suspect by the name of Spurgion Whitby, 43. We went to a location on South Bay Road in Gaston, but were directed to another residence off Highway 46 in Garysburg.
&uot;That too was a dead-end, but from information we obtained, were able to track down Whitby at Lot 17, Clement’s Mobile Home Park between Garysburg and Gaston,&uot; he continued.
Whitby was wanted on probation violation charges as well.
Both suspects have been turned over to Halifax officials.
