NEA clips Halifax

LASKER – Nine players were in the scoring column for Northeast Academy as the Eagles won over non-conference rival Halifax Academy, 57-47.

Rich Edwards put the Eagles ahead 2-0 in the first and Northeast never looked back, outscoring Halifax 12-6 in the first quarter.

Edwards hit two three pointers and Drew Pinnix added another trey in the second in a 20-point scoring effort by the Eagles.

Halifax scored 15 in the second quarter, including three’s by Brent Caudle and Shase Hawkins to close out the first half with the Eagles ahead, 32-21.

Buddy Duke hit a basket to get the Eagles going in the third quarter.

The teams traded baskets, including a Northeast trey by Tyler Davis and another Hawkins three.

Going into the fourth, the Eagles held a 44-32 advantage.

The Eagles struck first again as Will McLawhorn hit the first basket.

Halifax then went on a 7-0 run to pull within 7, 46-39.

That would be the closest the Vikings would come as Northeast pulled out a 57-47 victory.

&uot;We have to keep Brian out of foul trouble,&uot; Eagles head coach John Brown said, referring to center Brian McLean who was forced to sit during portions of the third and fourth quarters.

&uot;We’re also committing too many unforced turnovers,&uot; Brown said.

Edwards led Northeast with 12 points.

McLean and Lance Jenkins each added 10 points on top of a solid defensive effort.

The Eagles will face the Vikings again on December 7 at Halifax Academy.
