Mildred E. Sivells
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Mildred Evon Cumbo Sivells, 64, formerly of Seaboard, died November 23, 2004.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., for the wake. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Beginning Christian Center, 5900 Arthur Ave., Portsmouth, by Pastor J.E. Chisholm. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at noon Tuesday with the family there from 6 to 7 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 4301 Midfield Parkway at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church.
Mrs. Sivells retiring in 1991, worked with the Portsmouth public school system for more than 25 years. She was a member of New Beginning Christian Center and served as deaconess, intercessory prayer warrior, president of the Usher Board and other church affiliated committees.
Survivors include her husband, Leon A. Sivells Sr.; son, Leon A. Sivells Jr. of the home; daughter, Evon M. Sivells of Clinton, Md.; two sisters, Lola Shores of Santa Anna, Calif., and Lois Blow of Portsmouth; and two grandchildren.
Irvin B. Joyner
MURFREESBORO – Irvin B. Joyner Jr., 75, died Nov. 26, 2004, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C. Mr. Joyner was born in Hertford County, a son of the late Irvin Berry Joyner Sr. and Essie Askew Joyner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 101st Airborne Division and was employed as a draftsman with various companies for more than 50 years. He was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Chrystal Whitehead Joyner of Murfreesboro; sons, Irvin B. Joyner III of Four Oaks, N.C., Joseph Michael Joyner and Jonathon Andrew Joyner, both of Greenville; a daughter, Carolyn Joyner Gelot of Ahoskie, N.C.; and five grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery, Como, N.C., with the Rev. Charles Paul officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Garrett Funeral Home, Murfreesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Murfreesboro Rescue Squad.
Essie Warren
LASKER – Mrs. Essie Laura Slade Warren, age 102 of Lasker, NC, died November 27, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Warren was born Oct. 25, 1902 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late William J. Slade and Mary Bashford Peele Slade and the wife of the late Hardy Ellis Warren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Hardy Slade and a sister, Martha Jeanette Warren Lassiter. She was a member of Lasker Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Elizabeth &uot;Lib&uot; Warren of Lasker and her son, Oliver C. Warren and his wife, Anne of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Kathy Warren Gibson, Janet Warren Shimanek and Becky Warren Edmonds; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Warren Shimanek, Laura Elizabeth Gibson and Jason Young.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Lasker Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Lasker Cemetery.
The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, NC, Monday from 7 until 9 p.m.

Ethel Jones
GATES – Ethel Vasco Lassiter Jones, 80, a native of Gates County, died November 27, 2004 at Down East Nursing Home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at New Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Claude Odom. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie A. Jones Sr. of Gates; seven children, Lenward Jones and Edna Williams, both of Gates, Charlie Jones Jr. of Hampton, Va., Curtis Jones and Johnnie Jones, both of New York, Larry Jones and Fannie Langston, both of Gatesville; three sisters, Annie Briggs and Bernice Pierce, both of Brooklyn and Ollar Wiggins of Philadelphia, Pa.; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Lonza Hardy
ROANOKE RAPIDS – Lonza Hardy, 76, died November 25, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Halifax County.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faithful Band Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, by the Rev. W.R. Burston. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
