Thanksgiving closings announced

As the Thanksgiving holiday edges near, families, friends and neighbors will be gathering together around the table for the once a year feast, giving recognition to the time of harvest.

Stores will be gearing up for the biggest retail day of the year, while municipalities and other town offices will pull down the shades and post the ‘Closed for the Holiday’ signs. There will be turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, indigestion and more and before you know it, the dishes, glasses, pots pans and trash will begin to pile up like mountains before your eyes, leaving you wishing you had a few extra days to clean up the mess.

Due to the holiday, the following is a list of municipalities and county services that will be closed:

Bertie County Governmental offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. For county citizens outside city limits, the landfill will be closed Thursday and Friday and resume normal business hours on Monday.

Hertford County Governmental offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. The transfer station/scale house/county landfill will be closed Thursday and Friday, but all seven recycling collection sites will remain open from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Northampton County Governmental offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. The county landfill will also remain closed Thursday and Friday in observation of the holiday.

Ahoskie: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Friday’s trash removal has been rescheduled for Saturday.

Aulander: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash will be picked up on Wednesday.

Cofield: Offices closed Thursday and Friday.

No trash pick up will be conducted on Friday, but normal collection schedule will resume Tuesday.

Colerain: Office closed Thursday, no Friday hours. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for Friday.

Garysburg: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for Friday and Friday’s pick up will be retrieved on Saturday.

Gaston: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for Friday and Friday’s pick up will be retrieved on Saturday.

Harrellsville: Offices closed Thursday and Friday with no alteration in trash pick up schedule.

Jackson: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for Friday and Friday’s pick up will be retrieved on Saturday.

Lewiston-Woodville: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash will be retrieved on Wednesday, November 24.

Murfreesboro: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Friday trash pick up for commercial and residential customers has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 27.

Powellsville: Offices closed Thursday, but will be open on Friday with trash pick up as scheduled on Monday.

Rich Square: Offices closed Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for Friday and Friday’s pick up will be retrieved on Saturday.

Windsor: Offices closed Thursday, but resume normal business hours on Friday. Thursday’s trash pick up has been rescheduled for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Winton: Offices closed both Thursday and Friday.

There will be no Friday pick up, however trash services will resume on Tuesday.

Trash services normally scheduled for Thursday will be picked up on Friday with Friday’s trash removal scheduled for Saturday in remaining Northampton County municipalities. Waste management offices will be closed Thursday and reopen Friday. Recycling schedules will not be affected as collection occurs the first and third week of each month.
