McAllister E. Copeland
SUFFOLK, Va. – McAllister E. &uot;Mack&uot; Copeland, 94, a native of Chowan County, died November 14, 2004.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday in Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell & Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. R. Stewart McCarter and the Rev. Jon Rissmiller. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
Copeland attended school in Sunbury and was a farmer in North Carolina and Virginia most of his life. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was a trustee, usher and served on many other committees.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Knight Copeland; a daughter, Sheila C. Chappell of Suffolk; a son, Joseph P. Copeland of Wakefield; three grandsons; and five great-grandsons.
William D. Parker
SUFFOLK, Va. – William D. Parker, 66, a native of Gates County, died November 10, 2004, at her residence.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Sunbury, by the Rev. A.L. Lassiter. Interment was in the church cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, was in charge.
Parker was a retired crane operator from Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. and was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church, Sunbury.
Survivors include six sisters, Dorothy A. Riddick of New York, Betty R. Savage of Gates, Sarah L. Scott of Corapeake, Mary M. Wiggins of Philadelphia, Martha Wiggins of Windsor and Carolyn E. Thomas of Baltimore; and a brother, James M. Riddick of Suffolk.
William Bowden III
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – William Bowden III, 20, formerly of Rocky Mount, died November 10, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon on Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Jeremiah Davis. Interment will be in the Gardens of Gethsemane. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.
Christopher Goddard
AHOSKIE – Christopher Kevin Goddard, 22, a native of Queens, N.Y., died November 14, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Soul Saving Station Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Greg Winley. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Survivors include his mother, Gail Goddard; his father, Calvin George; two sisters, Stephanie Goddard and Annissa George, all of Ahoskie; and his grandparents, Frank and Judith Goddard and Vera George, all of Queens.
Sallie D. Dukes
AYDEN – Sallie Dunn Dukes, 98, of Ayden, NC, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Dukes was born in Hertford County August 2, 1906, a daughter of the late Zebulon Vance Dunn and Cellie Wynns Dunn. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Johnson Dukes.
Surviving are, her daughter, Katherine Shackelford of Ayden; brothers, Jack Dunn of Greensboro and Buck Dunn of Leesburg, Fla.; grandsons, Lee Shackelford of Franklin, Va. and Bruce Shackelford of Winterville, NC; and two great-grandsons.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert W. Deloatch
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Robert Wilson Deloatch, a native of Ahoskie, died November 13, 2004, at his home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Second Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
Deloatch was a member of Elm Grove Church of Ahoskie until he relocated to Norfolk.
He was a retired member of the Longshoreman Local 1248.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie; a son, Robert Kenny Deloatch; a daughter, Pamela Deloatch-Clark; two grandchildren; a sister, Gussie Dean Mitchell of Ahoskie; and two grandchildren.
Sol B. Siegel
GATESVILLE – Sol Benny Siegel, 100, a native of Durham, and formerly of the Drum Hill section of Gates County, died November 15, 2004.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by Rabbi Michael Panitz. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
Siegel was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, he retired from the Naval Air Station in Norfolk and moved to Gates County in the 1950s.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Robert Keene
AHOSKIE – Robert &uot;Bobby&uot; Keene, 65, a native of Hertford County, died November 15, 2004, at his residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Lewis. Burial will be in the Keene family cemetery, Ahoskie. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge. A viewing will be held after 5 p.m. on Friday.
Keene was disabled and a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Keene of Hampton, Va.; and two daughters, Robin Keene and Jackie Keene, both of Hampton.
Robert C. Smith
AHOSKIE – Robert Condre’ &uot;Pumpkin&uot; Smith, died November 14, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Soul Saving Station Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Javis Parker. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Smith was a member of Berean Church.
Survivors include one son, Ramont\u00E9 Smith of Cofield; his parents, Dianne Smith and Robert Lee Artis, both of Ahoskie; his stepmother, Hattie M. Sessoms of Ahoskie; one brother, Joshua Monta Smith of Ahoskie; his sister, Emily Sessoms of Ahoskie; and his maternal grandmother, Christine Smith of Ahoskie.
Evangeline Epps
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Evangeline Epps, a native of Ahoskie, died November 15, 2004.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12 noon at Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. A funeral will follow at 2 p.m., also Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ahoskie, by Thomas Holley. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Epps was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Epps Binns of Newport News and Melea Epps Greenfeld of Silver Springs, Md.; one brother, Booker T. Moore of Latham, N.Y.; one sister, Leatta Gidney of Fayetteville; and five grandchildren.
Timmie Gardner
WINDSOR – Timmie Gene Gardner, 60, a native of Martin County, died November 16, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.N. Baggett. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the home of his parents, 1314 US 13-17 South, Windsor.
Gardner was a member of several hunt clubs. He was a heavy equipment operator with Phelps & White.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Knight Gardner of Windsor; a daughter, Tammy Gardner of Tarboro; a son, Timmie Gardner of Rocky Mount; his mother and father, Jay and Doris K. Gardner of Windsor; a brother, Donald Gardner of Bethel; and five grandchildren.
Florence Smith
RICH SQUARE _ Florence P. Smith, 82, died November 15, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. Tony Flood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith-Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square.
Roy S. Burgess
CONWAY – Roy Sumner Burgess, 88, a native of Northampton County, died November 16, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids. He was the widower of Marie DesJardin Burgess.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 .m. Sunday at Conway Cemetery, Conway, by the Rev. David Ross. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson.
Burgess was retired from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., where he served as zookeeper for the Washington Zoo.
Survivors include his sons, Phillip R. Burgess of Germantown, Md., David P. Burgess of Wheaton and Joseph E. Burgess of Charlestown, W.Va.; a daughter, Dorothy K. Kicks of Savage, Md.; a brother, Grover Burgess of Conway; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Michael Manley
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. – Michael Manley, a native of Hertford County, died November 13, 2004 at Prince George Community Hospital, Cheverly.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. Charlie Carter. Burial will be in the Eure family cemetery, Gates. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie A. Manley of Capital Heights; one son, Deveren Holley Sr. of Upper Marlboro; one daughter, Jennifer Manley of Capitol Heights; his mother, Margaret Manley of Cofield; one brother, Robert Manley of Cofield; and three grandchildren.
Kennith Hind
AHOSKIE – Kennith Hind, died November 17, 2004 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Georgetta Moore
POWELLSVILLE – Georgetta Moore, 80, a native of Bertie County, died November 16, 2004 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Missionary Church, Powellsville, by the Rev. John White. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
She was a retired cook for Bracy’s Carolina Cooking and a member of First Baptist Missionary Church Powellsville.
Survivors include six sons, Randolph Moore, Terrance Harrell and Tommy Hayes, all of Ahoskie, Timothy Moore of Alexandria, Va., Larry Moore of Powellsville and Lynn White of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Arleen White of Ahoskie; and seven grandchildren.
Patricia B. Parker
KELFORD – Patricia B. Parker, died November 17, 2004 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.
