Markevion Outlaw
COLERAIN – Markevion Damon Outlaw, 2 months old, son of Markee Outlaw and Kimberly Dembry of Colerain, died November 12, 2004 at Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, Norfolk, Va.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church, Colerain by Bishop Thomas Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Markevion was a native of Hertford County.
Other survivors include one sister, Brianna Outlaw of Ahoskie; paternal grandparents, Sarah Outlaw and Gearld Raynor, both of Colerain; maternal grandparents, Debbie and James Leary, both of Colerain and Steve Freeman of Baltimore, Md.; paternal great-grandmothers, Gracie Outlaw and Janice Raynor, both of Colerain; maternal great-grandparents, Mary and Bobby Harrell of Harrellsville and Cecil White of Ahoskie; and maternal great-grandmothers, Dora Dembry of Colerain and Louise Mitchell of Ahoskie.
John Walden Jr.
GASTON – John Walden Jr., 81, died November 12, 2004 at his home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaston Baptist Church, Gaston, by Pastor Daniel Bran. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
Florence Bunch
MERRY HILL – Florence Rebecca Taylor Bunch, 76, a native of Bertie County, died November 12, 2004 at the Brian Center. She was the widow of Edward Benjamin Bunch.
A graveside funeral was conducted Sunday at Capeharts Baptist Cemetery by the Rev. Al Jarrell. Walker Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Bunch was a homemaker and a member of Capeharts Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ben Bunch of Merry Hill; a sister, Kay Taylor Feher of Ahoskie; a brother, Bruce White Taylor of Merry Hill; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Virtle Speller
WINDSOR – Virtle Hoggard Speller, 93, a native of Bertie County, died November 12, 2004. She was the widow of Willie Edison Speller.
A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Roger Kiker. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983 or to University Hospital Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910. Walker Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Speller was a member of Ross Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Annie Bly S. Benfield of Rocky Mount; and a granddaughter.
Donald Kirkland
GRIFTON – Donald Ray Kirkland, 65, a native of Franklin, Va., died November 13, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Galatia Baptist Church by the Rev. David Foster. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.
Kirkland was a Vietnam veteran in the US Navy; a retired master welder for over 36 years and also an avid scubba diver.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Kim Kirland and Kevin Ray Kirkland, both of Grifton; two daughters, Ilene Kirkland of Wilson and Tania Kirkland of Woodland; one brother, Pete Kirkland of Franklin; two sisters, Betty Vaughn of Galatia and Linda Radford of Rocky Mount; a stepson, James Walter Raleigh of Powellsville; stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Parker of Murfreesboro, Theresa Hyatt of Aulander and Nancy Chase of Ahoskie; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Garland R. Cannon
SEABOARD – Mr. Garland Ray Cannon, age 61, of US Hwy. 158, Seaboard, NC, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Cannon was born March 10, 1943 in Halifax County, NC, the son of the late George W. Cannon and Lucy C. Cannon. He was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Lorene Rogers, Carl N. Cannon, George W. Cannon Jr., Shelby Matthews and Edward Cannon. He was an US Army veteran and retired correctional officer with the NC Dept. of Corrections. After retirement he worked as a security guard at Halifax Regional Medical Center. He attended Galatia Baptist Church and was a member of Pendleton Masonic Lodge #418.
Survivors include his wife, Camilla Taylor Cannon; his daughters, Teresa Cannon Whitley and her husband, Carl of Lasker and Luresa Cannon Stainback and her fianc\u00E9, Bobby Tyler of Franklin, Va.; his son, Garland Ray Cannon II and his wife, Teri of Syracuse, Utah; his grandchildren, Frank Harris and his wife, Stephanie, Katie Harris Collier and her husband, Jim and Joshua T. Harris, all of Pendleton, NC, Trent Whitley of Lasker, NC, Tiffany N. Berry and her husband, Craig of Carrollton, Va., Michelle L. Stainback of Franklin, Va., Brent DeClark and Ashley Cannon, both of Syracuse, Utah; a great-grandchild, Travis M. Berry; and also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Galatia Baptist Church with the Rev. David Foster and the Rev. R.O. Denton officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. and other times at the home.

Elmar M. Mason
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Elmar M. Mason, 85, a native of Como, died November 14, 2004, in Sentara Healthcare Center, Portsmouth. She was the widow of Garfield Mason.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Granger Flythe. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk.
Mrs. Mason was retired from the New York City Department of Social Services after 30 years of service. She was a former member of Holy Temple, Chesapeake.
Survivors include two nieces and three nephews.
Jimmie Dunlo
SOUTH MILLS – Jimmie Gray Dunlo, 86, a native of Askewville, died November 14, 2004. He was the widower of Mary Margaret Epperson Dunlo.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, by Pastor Ron Stewart. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, Virginia Beach, with military honors. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and again immediately following the chapel service in the lobby of the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation. Dunlo retired as a worker from the Norfolk Shipyard and Drydock Company. He was a member of South Mills Church of Christ, Woodmen of the World, the Masons and the Shriners. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Edwards and Carolyn Dew, both of South Mills and Rebecca Dunlo of Elizabeth City; two sons, James Dunlo of Chesapeake and Bernard Dunlo of Wanchese; one sister, Sue Elrod of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Ethel K. Owens
EDENTON – Ethel King Owens, 91, a native of Gates County, and formerly of Hobbsville, died November 12, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital. She was the widow of Bennie Owens.
A funeral was conducted Sunday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720 or to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a member Sandy Cross Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Virginia Lane, Mary Bivens, Ruth Lane and Joyce Evans, all of Edenton, Frances Robertson of The Villages, Fla., and Carolyn Howell of Kill Devil Hills; two sons, Bob Owens of Edenton and Billy Owens of Hertford; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Kathleen C. Stradley
FRANKLIN, Va. – Kathleen Cooke Stradley, 77, a native of Scotland Neck, died November 11, 2004.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday at Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery in Murfreesboro with the Rev. Dr. Billy Sellers. The family suggest memorials be made to any charity that helps children. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, was in charge.
Mrs. Stradley was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Nelson Stradley; a son, Tom Weir of Raleigh; and one sister, Lucille Bunting of Scotland Neck.

RICH SQUARE – Gladys Jacobs Vaughan, 80, a native of Northampton County, died November 11, 2004 at Maria Parham Hospital, Henderson.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. Eddie Vinson. Burial will be in the family cemetery, Rich Square. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

HARRELLSVILLE – Cora Williford Parker, 71, a native of Hertford County, and a recent resident of Hamilton Baptist Home, Hamilton, died November 14,
2004 in Martin General Hospital.
Mrs. Parker was a member of Harrellsville Baptist Church.
She was also a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Cora Elizabeth Parker of Winton; a son, Benny
S. Parker Jr. of Harrellsville; and one granddaughter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harrellsville Cemetery by the Rev. Jimmy Jarrell.

Catherine White
WINDSOR – Catherine Matthews White, 96, a native of Bertie County, died November 15, 2004, at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Delmar C. White.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dennis Conner. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the home of Dalton White, 112 US 13 North. Mrs. White was a homemaker and a member of Cashie Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Lee W. Mizelle of Williamston; three sons, Clarence White of Moyock, Dalton White of Windsor and Robert Earl White of Ahoskie; two sisters, Rosa Howe of Norfolk, Va., and Sallie Howard of Ahoskie; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Harry Edwards Jr.
MARGARETTSVILLE – Harry Thomas Edwards Jr., 58, a native of Halifax County, died November 15, 2004 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Severn Cemetery, Severn, by the Rev. Austin Anderson. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, 2010 Severn Road, Margarettsville, NC 27853.
Edwards was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Avent Edwards of Margarettsvile.
