– Over 950 doses of the flu vaccine have been administered in Hertford County, and nearly 150 doses remain – but those are limited to people in &uot;real&uot; need of getting the shot.

Dr. Ken Lovette of the Hertford County Health Department said Friday that anyone wanting to get the shot needed to call the health department in advance.

&uot;We have limited amounts of the vaccine, but people will be asked to meet the criteria before we will allow them to receive the shot,&uot; Lovette said.

&uot;As for folks not meeting the criteria, I highly suggest washing your hands as often as possible, stay away from sick people and take good care of your basic health,&uot; he said.

Another two million doses of the vaccine are expected from a French-based company, but as Lovette stated, there is no telling when or if the local area will see any of it. Even if it is distributed here, no one knows when.
