HC receives limited flu vaccine

WINTON – Despite short supplies and high demand, the Hertford County Health Department has received a supply of 840 doses of flu vaccine.

Health Department officials said those doses will be administered from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (Nov. 2-3). All vaccines will be administered at the Health Department in Winton.

According to a Health Department spokesperson, this limited supply of flu vaccine is earmarked for specific individuals. They include children (ages 6-23 months) and adults (ages 65 and up) who suffer from chronic medical problems.

All women that are pregnant during the flu season are also urged to take part in this vaccination process.

Others deemed as &uot;high risk&uot; individuals that should be vaccinated against the flu virus include those residing in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities; children (ages 6 months to 18 years) who are currently on chronic aspirin therapy; healthcare workers who work in direct patient care; out-of-home caregivers and daycare workers.

There is a $15 fee per vaccination. Those covered by insurance are reminded to bring that information.
