Perry Wilson Draper

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Mr. Perry Wilson Draper, 76, of Davie Smith Street in Roanoke Rapids died October 4, 2004 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Mr. Draper was born January 14, 1928 in Northampton County, the son of the late Claude Perry Draper and Penny Reece Draper.

Survivors include his sisters, Bonnie Peffer of Roanoke Rapids, Jane Powers and Lucie Taylor, both of Gaston.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Donald Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his sister, Bonnie Peffer, Davie Smith Street, Roanoke Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements.

Ethel Tillery Barkley

AULANDER – Ethel Tillery Barkley, 74, of Aulander, better known as &uot;Love&uot;, died Friday, October 1, 2004 at her residence.

Born January 1, 1930 in Northampton County, Barkley was a homemaker and member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving her are daughter, Evelyn Hyman of the home, son Charles Barkley of Aulander and Carl Barkley of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Hattie Hill of Garysburg, 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 9, with Rev. Rex Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Fannie Parker

PALM BEACH, FL – Fannie Parker, 60, died Monday, October 4 at Jupiter Memorial Hospital in Palm Beach, FL.

She was born January 7, 1944 as a native of Gates County. She was also a member of First Baptist Church, Gates.

Surviving her are her husband, Willie Parker of Gates; four sons, Anthony M. Parker, Charlie L. Parker and Stanley A. Parker of Gates, and Willie W. Parker of Suffolk, Va.; two daughters, Rosa C. Watson of Hampton, Va. and Janell T. Parker of Gates; two brothers, Robert L. White of Murfreesboro and Sam O. White of Boca Beach, Fl.; one sister, Clarice W. Smith of Gates and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church Gates at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9 with Rev. J.W. Felton officiating. Burial will follow at White Family Cemetery.

Bertha Harrell

WINDSOR – Bertha Harrell of Windsor died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor.

She was a member of Refreshing Center Cogic in Windsor.

She is survived by four sons, Clarence M. Cooper of Williamston, William L. Harrell Jr., Julius M. Harrell and Joseph C. Harrell, all of Windsor; three daughters, Annie Bertha Phillips and Loretta Barrett, both of Windsor, and Beverly H. Goffery of Elizabeth City; one brother, John S. Cooper of Windsor; one sister, Elsie M. Mourning of Windsor, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. at the Refreshing Center Cogic in Windsor, Friday, October 8, 2004 with Elder Joe Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Windsor.

Harvey William Vann

AHOSKIE – Harvey William Vann, of Ahoskie, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Robert Artis

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Robert &uot;Jack&uot; Artis of Newport News, Va., died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk.

He was a native of Hertford County.

Fred Wells

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fred Wells, 49, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at his residence in Evansville, Indiana.

Wells once worked as a chef at the Jenkins House Restaurant in Ahoskie. He was an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa (Garrett) Wells; his mother, Roberta &uot;Bobbie&uot; (Hill) Wells of Evansville; daughters Demetria Moll of Evansville, Stephanie Carroll of Princeton, Sara Wells of Evansville and Lee Wells of Evansville; a sister, Teckla &uot;Tec&uot; Wells of Evansville; four brothers, Thomas &uot;Tom&uot; Wells of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Robert &uot;Bob&uot; Wells of Evansville, William &uot;Bill&uot; Wells of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. And John Wells of Owensboro, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Boone Funeral Home ~ East Chapel with Reverend Catherine Sue Gates officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
