Dennis White Sr.

COLERAIN – Dennis Lee &uot;Rat&uot; White Sr., 76, died September 18, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was Saturday at Oxley Hill Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. Vonner G. Horton. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.

White was a member of Oxley Hill Baptist Church. He worked at Smithfield Packing Company for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cofield White; seven daughters, Cordelia Cofield, Janice White, Dorothy White and Marion Harris, all of Colerain, Carolyn White of Merry Hill, Hope White of Edenton and Jeronica White of Roper; three sons, Charles White of Las Vegas, Nev., Jerry White of Colerain and Larry White of Windsor; two sisters, Lillie Mae Mebane and Louvenia Holley, both of Colerain; and 34 grandchildren.

Barbara Freeman

WINDSOR – Barbara Cobb Freeman, 74, a native of Bertie County, died September 20, 2004. She was the widow of Oscar Laten Freeman.

A graveside service was conducted Thursday (September 23, 2004) at the Cobb family cemetery by the Rev. Frank Stansberry. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad or Askewville Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. Freeman was a homemaker and a member of Askewville Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Butch Freeman of Winton, Jeff Freeman of Edenton and David Freeman of Colerain; one daughter, Debbie Stevenson of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Edward G. Hunter

AHOSKIE – Edward G. Hunter, a native of Chowan County, died September 27, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Sunday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Robinson. Burial will be in the Hall family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Hunter was a retired driver education instructor. He was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Hall Hunter of Ahoskie; a daughter, Julia Edwina Perry of Ahoskie; and two grandchildren.

Janice R. Askew

AHOSKIE – Janice Rae Askew, died September 26, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Moore. Burial will be in the Askew family cemetery, Hexlena Rd., Powellsville. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Mitchell of Aulander; one sister, Fletcher M. Zimmerman of Upper Darby, Pa.; one step brother, Walter Williams of New York; and two grandchildren.
