Franklin D. Lane Jr.

EURE – Franklin Delano Lane Jr., 49, of Gates Forest Road, died Aug. 28, 2004, in his home.

Mr. Lane was born in Christiansburg, Va., a Baptist by faith and was a mechanic.

Surviving are his parents, Jerry L. and Reba Roman Smith of Eure; his son, Franklin D. Lane III of New Bern; sister, JoAnn Smith Eure of Powells Point; two brothers, Billy Woodruff of Chesapeake, Va. and Tony Smith of Corapeake; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Gatesville. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Emmalee Burroughs-Johnson

AHOSKIE – Emmalee Burroughs-Johnson, 79, died Aug. 27, 2004 at her residence.

A native of Washington D.C., she is survived by a daughter, Lorraine J. Wilson of Ahoskie, and one grandchild.

A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton. Burial will follow in the Winton First Baptist Church cemetery.

Hertford County Undertakers are handling the funeral arrangements.

Wallace E. Holloman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Wallace E. Holloman, 43, died Aug. 24, 2004 in Birmingham, Ala.

Holloman is a native of Hertford County.

Survivors include his adopted mother, Eunice Holloman of New York; a son, Brandon Holloman of Ft. Hood, Tx.; and a daughter, Lakethia Holloman of New Haven, Ct.

He is also survived by four brothers, Edward Holloman, Robert Holloman and Jesse Holloman, all of Ahoskie, and Calvin Holloman of Jacksonville; and five sisters, Mary Beasley of Ahoskie, Nellie Gray and Diane Craft, both of High Point, and Barbara Hearns and Patricia Joyner, both of New York.

A graveside service is scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Carver’s Park cemetery in Murfreesboro.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hertford County Undertakers.

George W. Brewington

AHOSKIE – George W. Brewington, 84, died August 29, 2004 at Norfolk Sentara Hospital.

Brewington was born May 20, 1920 in Sampson County. He was a retired top chef at Van Dorin Nursing Home. He was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Purdis Brewington of the home; two daughters, Ronnie Soriano of Ahoskie and Alesha Cardin of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Ellie Brewington of Clinton and George &uot;Avery&uot; Brewington of Cleveland, Oh.; two sisters, Jessie B. Carter of Fayetteville and Evelyn Krizni of New York; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Richardson III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge of the arrangements.

Odessie K. Liverman

POWELLSVILLE – Mrs. Odessie K. Liverman of Powellsville died Aug. 29, 2004 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

She was a member of Roundtree Temple in Powellsville.

Survivors include one son, Wardell Langford of Hampton, Va.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5 at the Roundtree Temple of Praise Church of God in Christ, International in Powellsville. Officiating will be Bishop J.D. Watford. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Brenda Mitchell Morris

AHOSKIE – Mrs. Brenda Mitchell Morris of Ahoskie died, Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

She was a member of New Ahoskie Baptist Church in Ahoskie.

Survivors include one son, Reginald L. Clark of Winston Salem; mother, Bertha P. Mitchell of Laurelton, NY; one brother, Roman Carl Mitchell of Laurelton, NY; two sisters, Deborah Parker and Carolyn White both of Ahoskie and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Ahoskie. Rev. Janice Sessoms of Zion Grove Baptist Church in Aulander will be officiating.

Lawrence H. Green

AULANDER – Mr. Lawrence H. Green of Aulander died, Sunday, August 29, 2004 at his residence.

He was a member of Ames Methodist Memorial Church in Baltimore, MD.

Survivors include three sons, Willie and Calvin Green, both of Ahoskie and Alvin Green of Baltimore, MD; and one daughter, Tellatha S. Wright of Charlotte, NC.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Ahoskie with a burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Ahoskie. Pastor Timothy Williams will be officiating.
