NEA rallies past HCHS

AHOSKIE – Northeast Academy rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top Hertford County 5-2 in tennis action here Wednesday afternoon.

Top-seeds Ally Rushing (HCHS) and Lyndal Brown (NEA) went three sets before reaching a decision. Rushing grabbed the first set by a count of 6-4, but Brown rallied to win set two 6-2. Rushing took the deciding set 6-3.

Brittany Hignite continued the winning ways for the Lady Bears when she topped Laura Boone by a count of 6-1 and 6-0.

From there, however, it was all Northeast Academy.

Samantha Cook won the battle of three seeds in a tiebreaker. She topped Tanya Sisler by a final of 3-6, 6-0 and 7-5.

Chelsea Davis, Allison Cashwell and Brittany Wade all grabbed singles victories for Northeast.

Davis won 6-2, 6-2 over Lindsay Burns while Cashwell beat Lauren Baker 6-1 and 6-2. Wade rounded out the singles victories by knocking off Becca Barket 6-1 and 6-3.

Due to darkness, only one of the doubles matches finished. In that match, Brown and Boone beat Rushing and Hignite 8-3.

The next match for Hertford County will be today when they travel to Edenton. Northeast will be back in action Wednesday when they head to Roanoke Rapids.
